HP INTRODUCES HP BASIC FOR MICROSOFT WINDOWS

Palo Alto, California. March 1, 1995 -- Hewlett-Packard Company today
introduces the latest member of the HP BASIC product family, HP BASIC for
Microsoft Windows. HP BASIC is a computer language for measurement
automation. The new software is targeted for those committed to the HP
BASIC programming environment who need an easy-to-use, competitively
priced, standards-based product for test and measurement applications.

"Many customers now wish to migrate from workstations to personal
computers, and HP BASIC for Windows helps them do that," said George
Sparks, general manager of HP's VXI Systems Division. "This is the first
in a series of steps that we'll be taking to provide a complete set of HP
BASIC solutions for test-code development in the PC/Windows environment."

HP BASIC for Windows is the result of a cooperative effort between HP and
TransEra Corp. that is focused on providing a 100 percent DOS-based
PC-compatible Rocky Mountain Basic product. Rocky Mountain Basic is the
widely accepted text-based development language for test engineers that is
known for its powerful input/output (I/O) capabilities. Working under a
joint development and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement, the
two companies plan to add Standard Instrument Control Library (SICL) and
HP BASIC+ extensions to HP VEE, and to work toward greater operability
with VXI equipment. HP VEE is a graphical programming language that allows
users to program by using a mouse to connect icons.

Like the other HP BASIC programs, this version is compatible with all DOS
and UNIX platforms, so a program can be developed on one computer and run
on any other. An internal program editor checks syntax as programs are
written. Trace tools provide a line-by-line log of executed statements and
variable changes as the program runs. HP BASIC also allows a library of
subroutines to be stored for re-use, in various languages that can be
called as needed.

The HP BASIC transactional I/O system includes commands for high-speed data
transfer, interrupt processing, mass storage, printing, plotting and
automatic data formatting. Fifteen levels of software interrupt allow
processing of multiple external events with varying degrees of priority.
Powerful graphics capabilities allow data to be displayed as numbers or
vivid graphics. HP BASIC also includes real, integer, and complex numbers;
trigonometric and hyperbolic functions; string operators; and
matrix-manipulation math commands, among others.

U.S. Price and Availability

HP BASIC for Windows is priced at $950. There is an upgrade credit of $200
available from previous HP BASIC revisions.

As manufacturers experience intense competitive pressures, they need
flexibility in how they design, develop, procure and support functional
test systems. HP provides a range of alternatives, such as HP BASIC for
Windows, that allow manufacturers to optimize their approach to functional
test. These alternatives also include standards-based instruments and
software, off-the-shelf platforms and systems, and a variety of
engineering and integration services that typically are applied in the
areas of electronics functional test, data acquisition and direct physical
measurement.
