HP ANNOUNCES EASY NETWORK PRINTING FOR IBM OS/2 LAN SERVER USERS

HP Continues its "Operation Camouflage" Strategy, Integrates HP
Printer-Management Software into IBM OS/2 Warp and IBM LAN Server

Las Vegas, Nevada. March 28, 1995 -- Hewlett-Packard Company today
announced HP JetAdmin for IBM OS/2 LAN Server, which makes network
printing on LAN Server networks easy, intuitive and manageable. The
HP-developed printer-management software will be integrated into future
releases of IBM's OS/2 Warp operating system and LAN Server 4.0 network
operating system.

HP JetAdmin for OS/2 LAN Server is an integral part of "Operation
Camouflage," a strategic initiative announced today by HP, and is expected
to be available to OS/2 Warp users this summer by downloading it from
electronic bulletin-board services. Working with IBM, Microsoft and
Novell, HP aims to develop and integrate printer-management software into
today's most widely used computing platforms, thus providing network
administrators with powerful network-printer-management tools and users
with intuitive and transparent network printing.

According to BIS Strategic Decisions, network administrators spend an
average of 20 percent to 30 percent of their time on network printing
issues. HP JetAdmin for OS/2 LAN Server provides network administrators
with powerful network-printer management tools, including installation,
configuration and diagnostic features that simplify the process of
installing and managing network printers. These management features allow
administrators to discover and solve printing issues remotely before they
affect user productivity.

HP JetAdmin for IBM OS/2 LAN Server allows administrators to install,
configure and troubleshoot network printers from their desks remotely.
This increases the level of communication between printer and
administrator while greatly simplifying the printer installation and
configuration processes. HP JetAdmin software, which will be fully
integrated into LAN Server, provides complete functionality without
requiring that the user launch a separate application. HP JetAdmin for LAN
Server has the same look and feel as OS/2 and LAN Server, and is installed
and accessed via the OS/2 print object, which increases usability.

For all end users, JetAdmin provides remote-printer status, improved
print-job status and true end-of-job notification so that users know when
their documents are ready at the printer. For OS/2 clients, HP JetAdmin
provides real-time printer status as well as enables real-time job status
through the OS/2 print object.

HP JetAdmin for LAN Server, one of three Operation Camouflage products,
joins similar products under development with Microsoft and Novell. The
first product announced last October, was HP JetAdmin integration into the
Windows 95 operating system. Last week, HP announced its role in
developing Novell's Distributed Print Services, a new print-services
architecture for NetWare.

"Users today are looking for solutions that make network printing simpler
and more intuitive," said Ormond Rankin, marketing manager of HP's Network
Printer Division. "Printer feature set and price/performance are still
important, but users are now asking for ease-of-use features like
remote-printer status and seamless integration of printing into their
network computing environments. HP JetAdmin for LAN Server delivers on the
Operation Camouflage strategy to make network printing more transparent to
users and administrators."

"We are pleased to be offering our OS/2 Warp and LAN Server customers
simplified, seamless network printing through HP's JetAdmin," said Art
Olbert, vice president, IBM Personal Software Products Division, LAN
Systems. "The standard LAN Server 4.0 sets for scalability, ease of use
and drag and drop administration are continued with this new option for
simple network printing."

HP JetAdmin for OS/2 LAN Server is expected to ship in early summer.
Initially, it will be available free of charge from IBM and HP (also
downloadable via HP and IBM bulletin boards and CompuServe).

HP JetAdmin print-management software works in OS/2 LAN Server environments
and with HP printers that are directly attached to Ethernet or Token Ring
networks via HP JetDirect print servers. These include HP LaserJet, HP
DeskJet and HP PaintJet printers, HP DesignJet plotters with HP Modular
input/output (MIO) slots that accept HP JetDirect cards, and any brand or
type of printer attached to an HP JetDirect EX external print server.

Aiming to simplify network printing, HP first introduced HP JetAdmin
software for network administrators and HP JetPrint for end users as a
part of the LaserJet 4Si MX network laser printer introduction in April
1993. HP now offers HP JetAdmin for five network operating systems: LAN
Server, Windows 95, NetWare, HP-UX, SunOS and Solaris.

HP is the world's leading supplier of hardcopy products that set the
standard for technology, performance and reliability. HP LaserJet and
DeskJet printers are the world's best-selling printers that range from
high-speed network devices for workgroups to inexpensive desktop products
for the home. HP has sold more than 30 million printers worldwide since
1984. Other market-leading HP products include DesignJet large-format
printers and plotters, ScanJet scanners, OfficeJet printer-fax-copier
devices and HP FAX facsimile machines.
