HP ANNOUNCES NATIVE SUPPORT FOR NETWARE DIRECTORY SERVICES THROUGH ITS HP
JETDIRECT PRINT SERVERS

Palo Alto, California. March 20, 1995 -- Hewlett-Packard Company today
announced that it will offer native support for NetWare Directory Services
(NDS) for its family of HP JetDirect network print servers and HP JetAdmin
printer-management software. This support facilitates an organization's
migration from NetWare 3.X to NetWare 4.X with NDS.

"We view print servers as critical components in the network printing
infrastructure," said Ken Hunt, product marketing manager for HP's
Roseville (Calif.) Networks Division. "By staying compatible with major
changes in network operating systems, we are helping our customers protect
their infrastructure investment."

With native NDS compatibility, customers will be able to continue to use HP
JetAdmin printer-management software as well as the speed advantages
gained when HP JetDirect print servers are configured in HP's Queue Server
mode. NDS support for Queue Server mode is expected to be available for
the JetDirect family and HP JetAdmin beginning in the summer of 1995.

Support For Current HP JetDirect Users

For users of HP JetDirect print servers who wish to migrate to NetWare 4.X
before native support is available, HP offers two options: Novell's
Printer mode or HP's Queue Server mode with bindery emulation enabled on
the network server. Neither option requires any modification or
replacement of current HP JetDirect products.

NDS, one of the seven core services of NetWare 4.X, is an
information-database service that organizes network resources -- clients,
groups, printers, volumes and other physical network devices -- into a
logical structure.

HP JetAdmin Software

HP JetAdmin software allows administrators to install, configure,
troubleshoot and manage HP JetDirect-attached printers, print queues and
print jobs remotely.

In addition to supporting NetWare, HP JetAdmin software is available for
HP-UX, SunOS and Solaris network operating systems, and will be integrated
into Microsoft's Windows 95 for use in NetWare and Windows 95 network
environments.

Availability

Native NDS compatibility is expected to be available for all new JetDirect
print servers with FLASH memory in the summer of 1995, and will be
available free from electronic bulletin boards and access sites. For
JetDirect print servers that do not contain FLASH memory, an upgrade FLASH
SIMM is available. Older JetDirect print servers that cannot accept a SIMM
will be eligible for future trade-up rebate programs.

HP JetDirect print servers are used to connect HP and other printers
directly to networks for superior network-printer reliability, performance
and location flexibility. Since 1991, HP has sold more than 1.5 million HP
JetDirect print servers, making it the world's leading supplier of network
print servers.

HP-UX is based on and is compatible with Novell's UNIX operating system. It
also complies with X/Open's XPG4, POSIX 1003.1, 1003.2, FIPS 151-1 and
SVID2 interface specifications.
