Frontier Technologies Enters Electronic Commerce Market with Secure Web
Server and Secure Browser

SAN JOSE, Calif.--April 10, 1995--Frontier Technologies, a developer of
award-winning TCP/IP applications, today made a strong entrance into the
emerging market for Internet-based electronic commerce with the
announcement of two new products: a full-function secure World Wide Web
server, and a secure version of its Internet access product. The products
are being previewed today at Internet World, held in San Jose.

Frontier Technologies' SuperWeb is a multipurpose web server that allows
corporations to publish marketing information on the Internet as well as
conduct financial transactions. Such information may consist of
visually-attractive, content-rich documents made up of text, graphics,
video or sound. Customers access this information from their desktop
computers using a "web browser" such as Frontier Technologies'
SuperHighway Access or one of the various implementations of Mosaic. Both
SuperWeb and the next release of SuperHighway Access will support data
encryption so that customers may safely send credit card numbers or other
confidential information over the Internet.

"Frontier Technologies is now one of the very few companies to provide a
full solution for conducting business in cyberspace," said Dr. Prakash
Ambegaonkar, Frontier Technologies' president. "The Internet is growing
extremely quickly worldwide, and almost any corporation can benefit from
marketing their products and services on the Internet. However, concerns
about security as well as the complexities of setting up an Internet
presence have proven to be barriers to electronic commerce. Frontier
Technologies is leveraging its experience in internetworking to provide
complete, easy-to-use products that will enable companies to take full
advantage of the Internet. Our mission is to produce innovative products
that make businesses more competitive and individuals more productive."

A Modular, Scalable Web Server

Frontier Technologies SuperWeb is distinguished by its scalability,
extensibility and ease of use.

Scalability. SuperWeb runs on any Windows NT server as well as Windows 3.1
and Windows 95 (when available). This makes it suitable for, say, a small
web server providing internal information for a department or team, or as
a full commercial server accepting on-line orders from thousands of
customers a day.

Extensibility: SuperWeb follows a modular design. The server program
performs most of its functions through back-ends: user configurable and
extensible programs or scripts that are run by the server to handle a
request. This allows for extending the functionality of the server by
adding a host of back-ends transparently. For example, once Electronic
Data Interchange (EDI) becomes more popular over the Internet, companies
will be able to use SuperWeb Server as their initial interface for
accepting and authenticating orders from customers; the Server back-end
application could query the company's inventory management system to see
if the required products are in stock. Another back-end application could
be linked to the accounting system, allowing an invoice to be generated
and transmitted back to the customer electronically. SuperWeb Server
supports the Common Gateway Interface (CGI 1.1), the standard interface
for server scripts.

Ease of use: Frontier Technologies' intelligently-designed SuperWeb
includes a powerful but simple-to-use WebMaster tool that allows even a
non-technical administrator quickly configure the server. Several users
can access the WebMaster tool from their desktops, so that each user can
update and maintain their own files. However, the web server's overall
data integrity and consistency is ensured by allowing only a SuperWeb
Master (i.e. a user with an extra level of authorization, typically a
system administrator) to perform certain key tasks, such as adding
applications.

Other SuperWeb highlights include a graphics-based Forms Designer, for
rapid design of complex forms, several levels of security, including
support for the Secure Hypertext Transfer Protocol (S-HTTP) and Secure
Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol, and powerful indexing and searching
capabilities.

Secure SuperHighway Access

Frontier Technologies also announced today the next release of its popular
SuperHighway Access product for Windows. SuperHighway Access 2 is
characterized by its support for authentication and data encryption (using
RSA data encryption technology) as well as numerous enhancements to the
current release, including an enahcned Internet news reader, integrated
email, a new dialer application, and ISDN support.

"SuperHighway Access 2 will allow customers to safely do business over the
Internet," said Dr. Ambegaonkar. "Whether it is a customer placing
repeated orders with a known supplier, or a consumer making a credit card
purchase at one of the on-line shopping malls, SuperHighway Access will
ensure the security of the transaction."

SuperHighway Access is already recognized as one of the industry's best
Internet access products. In a recent review of competing products by
Computer Life magazine, SuperHighway Access was the only Internet browser
to receive a 5-star rating. The product is distinguished by its ability to
support up to 30 concurrent Internet searches, as well as by its unique
Internet Organizer that allows users to organize their favorite Internet
sites by subject.

Pricing and Availability

Both SuperWeb and SuperHighway Access 2 will be available this summer.
Pricing will be announced closer to release date.
