DIGITAL ANNOUNCES WORLD'S FASTEST WORKSTATION

MAYNARD, Mass. -- April 3, 1995 -- Digital Equipment Corporation today
unveiled its AlphaStation 250 4/266 workstation -- the world's fastest
workstation. Priced at $19,995 for a fully configured system, the new
workstation is designed to meet the demanding needs of scientists and
engineers in technical markets such as Mechanical CAD, Electrical CAD,
Geographic Information Systems, and science and research. It runs three
operating systems -- Digital UNIX, OpenVMS, and Microsoft's Windows NT
Workstation.

This high-performance desktop workstation has a clock rating of 266 MHz,
and SPECint92 and SPECfp92 of 198.6 and 262.5 respectively. It offers
customers better performance and price/performance than workstations from
competitors, including all of Hewlett-Packard's HP 715 and 735
workstations, IBM's 3CT and 59H workstations, Sun's SPARCstation
workstations, and Silicon Graphic's Indigo2 and PowerIndigo2
workstations.

"With the AlphaStation 250 4/266 workstation, our customers get an
unbeatable combination -- a powerful system and the world's fastest 2D
graphics performance available at any price," said Philippe Ribeyre, vice
president of Digital's Workstation Business Segment. "In addition, our
customers in technical markets can run the top applications from the
industry's leading Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) such as Parametric
Technology Corporation, Matra Datavision, ComputerVision, Mentor Graphics,
Synopsis, Viewlogic, ESRI, and Genetics Computer Group, to name a few."

Parametric Technology Corporation of Waltham, Mass., is the leading
supplier of mechanical design software used by more than 5,000 companies
throughout the world. The company is one of a number of ISVs expecting
Digital's new workstation to be a big seller. "At PTC, we recognize that
every day saved in the design-through-manufacturing cycle positively
affects our customer's bottom line," said Olimpio DeMarco, manager of
strategic relations for Parametric Technology Corporation. "Certifying the
Pro/ENGINEER family of mechanical CAD/CAM software on a high-performance
workstation like the AlphaStation 250 4/266 workstation enables
Pro/ENGINEER customers to take advantage of excellent hardware
price/performance to further reduce their time to market."

Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc. (ESRI), based in Redlands,
Cal., is the market leader and pioneer in Geographic Information Systems
(GIS) solutions. ESRI is another ISV that envisions many sales of the new
workstation.

"The AlphaStation 250 4/266 workstation sets a new performance standard for
Digital's workstation product line," said Tom Murdoch, manager of hardware
vendor alliances at ESRI. "Mapping applications utilize a large amount of
disk storage and challenge the graphics capabilities of a workstation. The
AlphaStation 250 4/266 workstation more than meets the needs of our users
because of its outstanding 2D graphics performance, storage capacity, and
overall performance."

The AlphaStation 250 4/266 workstation is another channels-ready product
from Digital. It was designed and packaged with industry standard
components such as the PCI bus, which enables a wide range of peripherals
to be available from third-parties. The new workstation is available and
shipping worldwide through Digital's premier network of channel partners,
ISVs, and directly through Digital's Account Business Unit.

The AlphaStation 250 4/266 workstation comes with a three-year hardware
warranty, featuring next-day response and onsite service for the first
year. Digital is the only vendor in the industry to offer a three-year
hardware warranty for workstations.

An AlphaStation 250 4/266 workstation with the Digital UNIX or OpenVMS
operating system, 32 MBytes of memory, a 1.44 MByte floppy disk, a 1.05
GByte hard disk, a 600 MByte CD-ROM, ZLXp-E1 8-plane 2D/3D graphics, and a
21-inch color monitor is $19,995.

An AlphaStation 250 4/266 workstation with the Windows NT Workstation
operating system, 32 MBytes of memory, a 1.44 floppy disk, 535 MByte hard
disk, 600 MByte CD-ROM, DEC864 2D graphics, and a 17-inch color monitor is
$13,890.

Digital Equipment Corporation is the world's leader in open client/server
solutions from personal computing to integrated worldwide information
systems. Digital's scalable Alpha platforms, storage, networking, software
and services, together with industry- focused solutions from business
partners, help organizations compete and win in today's global
marketplace.
