COMPAQ LTE ELITES REACH NEW HEIGHTS -- COMPAQ TO SPONSOR THE AMERICANS ON
EVEREST 95 EXPEDITION AND PROVIDE WEEKLY TREKKING REPORTS ON THE INTERNET

HOUSTON, April 10, 1995 -- Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) today
announced its sponsorship of the Americans on Everest 95 Expedition as the
climbers begin a two-month trek to the summit of Mt. Everest. Requiring
the highest level of mobility, functionality and durability, the Mt.
Everest team requested the award-winning LTE Elites as their
notebook-of-choice to support, track and record their rigorous
expedition.

The general public can follow the expedition team via the Internet where
weekly updates will be accessible on Compaq's home page --
http://www.compaq.com.

During the trek, the LTE Elites will be used as mobile mountain offices
which are crucial in providing information about previous Mt. Everest
expeditions, updates on current weather patterns and data for future
journeys. In addition to being valuable informational resources, the
notebooks will be used by the climbers for direct communication with the
Base Camp, a 17,800-foot site, to log daily progress and track the
environmental impact of climbing expeditions. Beginning on April 17, the
climbers will provide weekly Internet updates noting their progress,
challenges and accomplishments.

"Compaq's overall portables strategy is to meet the needs of mobile users.
The Americans on Mt. Everest 95 group has challenged Compaq to keep its
commitment," said Ross Cooley, senior vice president for Compaq North
America. "This expedition is the ultimate mobile office -- a temporary
site which must retrieve and transmit information, no matter what the
conditions. Research into the LTE Elites' capabilities in below freezing
temperatures, hazardous terrain and extreme elevations has proven that the
Elites can go the distance."

"The capricious weather and the whims of the mountain demand flexibility.
The notebooks give us the flexibility to modify our climbing strategies
with the convenience of the latest technology, " said Guy Johnson, a
member of the American's on Mt. Everest 95 Team.

In addition to reaching the summit, the Americans on Mt. Everest 95 crew
want to accomplish an additional environmental goal. Not only are the
climbers committed to cleaning up after themselves, they have devised and
instituted a plan to clean up debris left behind from past expeditions.
The LTE Elites will assist the group in tracking and analyzing the
environmental impact of previous expeditions.

Compaq also is committed to conducting business in a manner that is
compatible with the environment and protects the quality of communities
where it operates. Compaq's management and staff are dedicated to
designing and building products in an environmentally sound manner.
Compaq's operations minimize manufacturing byproducts and the company has
implemented extensive recycling programs for various materials, including
office paper, aluminum cans and electronic scrap.
