CLARIS ADDS NOVELL IPX SUPPORT TO FILEMAKER PRO SERVER

Unique "smart" Server software now talks to both AppleTalk and IPX networks
simultaneously to dramatically speed key database management tasks for up
to 100 FileMaker Pro for Macintosh and Windows users

SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 20,1995 -- Claris Corporation announced that it
has begun shipment of FileMaker Pro Server 2.1 for Power Macintosh and
68000 Macintosh, the next version of its powerful network server version
of FileMaker Pro database software. The new version will now host database
files for both FileMaker Pro Macintosh and Windows guests simultaneously,
regardless of which popular network they may be using --AppleTalk and/or
IPX.

FileMaker Pro Server 2.1 is based on the leading Macintosh and Windows
end-user database from Claris Corporation. The company first shipped
FileMaker Pro Server 2.0, offering network support for AppleTalk network
users in July, 1994.

FASTER DATA ACCESS VIA POWER MACINTOSH AND 68000 MACINTOSH FOR PC AND
MACINTOSH CLIENTS

FileMaker Pro Server not only improves both network performance and
capacity but also addresses the needs of workgroups in cross-platform
settings within mixed network environments served by AppleTalk (Mac) and
IPX (Windows and Mac). Network intensive tasks previously handled locally
on a FileMaker Pro network, such as indexing, are off-loaded to the
FileMaker Pro Server, dramatically reducing the amount of data traffic
that passes over the network.

Users of FileMaker Pro Server 2.1 will experience performance improvements
of over 100% over FileMaker Pro 2.1 for Macintosh and Windows (non-Server
version) when undertaking common data management tasks. For example, with
10 users connected to the Server, replacing records is 13 times faster.
Other data intensive tasks, such as importing records and edit/update is
four to nine times faster. FileMaker Pro Server performance improvements
fully leverage Power Macintosh and 680X0 Macintosh technology, which
allows for numerous database operations to take place simultaneously using
asynchronous I/O and multi-threaded processing.

AS EASY TO INSTALL AS IT IS EASY-TO-USE

Completely "plug and play," FileMaker Pro Server 2.1 is fully compatible
with FileMaker Pro 2.0 and 2.1 for Macintosh and Windows applications. No
reconfiguration of existing FileMaker Pro database files is required.
Setup of the Server 2.1 software takes just minutes to host AppleTalk and
IPX guests. The Server is "smart," with a built-in capability to
communicate with both AppleTalk and IPX network protocols automatically.

Network administration tasks such as monitoring of server usage levels,
closing files and disconnecting users, can be accomplished by a designated
user at a secured location or from any Macintosh or Windows computer on
the network.

To further enhance usage, the new Server will feature a FileMaker Pro
Server Technical Information Sampler, a comprehensive database designed to
help answer frequently asked questions pertaining to FileMaker Pro,
FileMaker Pro Server, FileMaker networking and AppleScript.

FILEMAKER PRO: "BEST DATABASE IN THE WORLD"

FileMaker Pro for Macintosh and Windows was recently ranked by customers as
the best database in the world in a study conducted by DASAR
International. The survey was the first of its kind to assess customer
attitudes in one-on-one interviews with more than 6,000 PC users from
North America, Europe and Asia.

Recently, Claris announced that it is currently developing a new version of
FileMaker Pro, its award-winning end user database software for Macintosh
and PC, that will offer relational database capabilities to users for the
first time. The product is being designed to specifically match the needs
of its small business and workgroup customer base.
