ATTACHMATE EMBRACES CELLULAR DIGITAL PACKET DATA AND ANNOUNCES ALLIANCE
WITH MCCAW'S WIRELESS DATA DIVISION.

The Companies Will Provide Wireless Connectivity to Mainframes, Midrange
Computers or LAN-Based Servers .

SEATTLE -- April 24, 1995 -- Attachmate Corporation, the world's leading
provider of enterprise connectivity solutions, formally embraced Cellular
Digital Packet Data (CDPD) by today announcing it has signed a formal
agreement to work with McCaw's Wireless Data Division, the nation's
largest provider of cellular services offering wireless voice and data
communications. Under the terms of the agreement, McCaw and Attachmate
will work together to implement a joint marketing and sales program to
help large corporations bring wireless solutions to mobile workers over
McCaw's CDPD AirData network.

"Because Attachmate's customers typically have many remote or mobile users
who need access to host data and applications, LAN-based e-mail and
databases, and other corporate resources, we are especially enthusiastic
about our alliance with McCaw's Wireless Data Division," said Barry Horn,
executive vice president of worldwide sales and marketing at Attachmate.
"McCaw played an instrumental role in developing the CDPD standard, which
today has made AirData service a practical wireless network solution for
mobile workers in many industries."

Kendra VanderMeulen, vice president and general manager of McCaw's Wireless
Data Division, added, "We are the first CDPD carrier to form an alliance
with one of the world's largest software connectivity providers. No other
company in the connectivity industry has the complete product offering
that Attachmate has. In addition, Attachmate shares our commitment to
provide top-rated customer service to help corporations make the most of
their investments."

According to VanderMeulen, Attachmate offers a breadth of products to
address a wide range of wireless communication needs within the corporate
arena. This, coupled with its unparalleled customer support, will help
facilitate the adoption of viable wireless solutions. Specifically, McCaw
and Attachmate will work to help corporations by providing them with the
following:

-- Remote connectivity to mainframes, midrange computers or LAN-based
   servers.
-- Easy access to existing enterprise-wide information systems.
-- Tools allowing MIS managers to facilitate the distribution and
management of software to their mobile work forces.

"Because Attachmate's solutions are ready to use over AirData with little
or no additional development, corporations immediately can extend their
existing information technology to mobile workers in a variety of
industries," explained Allison Koenig, manager of ISV strategic relations
for McCaw's Wireless Data Division. "For years, organizations have been
saying it's too difficult to provide mobile workers with access to
corporate data and applications. Together, we are simplifying this process
and will enable, for example, workers in insurance, mortgage banking,
law-enforcement and public safety industries to access mission-critical
information, regardless of physical location."

McCaw's AirData service, based on the CDPD open standard, is superior in
terms of its versatility, signal speed, reliability, openness and robust
security, among other things. Its ability to send both voice and data
messages from the same device, as well as send both packet and
circuit-switched data, sets CDPD apart. With a channel speed of 19.2 Kbits
per second, CDPD is the fastest wide area wireless network. Rapid
development of AirData's CDPD technology is possible because it leverages
the existing cellular infrastructure. Finally, CDPD is based on an open,
non-proprietary design, which promotes broad availability of CDPD-related
products and services.
