ASPEN SYSTEMS ALPINE 275XS DISTINGUISHED AS WORKSTATION OF THE YEAR IN THE
1995 DIGITAL NEWS & REVIEW TARGET AWARDS

APRIL 13, 1995 -- NEWTON, MASS. - Digital News & Review today announced
that Aspen Systems Inc.'s ALPINE 275XS Workstation/Server has been chosen
as Workstation of the Year from among their 1995 Target Awards nominees.
Winners were selected by Digital News & Review's circulation of 75,000 IS
professionals based on factors of technological innovation, performance,
price, quality of service, and ease of use.

The ALPINE 275XS, based on Digital Equipment Corporation's 21064A Alpha AXP
microprocessor, has been engineered for extreme computing performance and
offers a host of outstanding features. The ALPINE's "built from the chip
up" board includes a 128-bit RAM bus, 128-bit secondary cache RAM of 2
megabytes, and a "pop out- chip and oscillator" design which supports
processor speeds of 166-, 200-, 233- and 275-MHz and allows for easy,
flexible upgrading. All ALPINEs are expandable up to 1 Gigabyte of RAM
using 72-pin SIMMs.

The ALPINE's three PCI expansion slots provide high-speed I/O throughput of
up to 132 megabytes/second. Other features include: an onboard FAST SCSI
II interface with internal and external connectors; three ISA expansion
slots; a remote diagnostics port; and a custom 3.3 volt power supply.
Complete systems are available in rack-mount, desktop, mini-tower, and
full-tower configurations (baby-AT form factor of 8.8" x 13"). The ALPINE
275XS sets a new price/performance mark with pricing at $10,967.00 for a
fully configured Windows NT system. In addition to Windows NT Workstation
and Windows NT Server , all ALPINEs are fully engineered to run OpenVMS
and Digital UNIX (OSF/1).

Now in its ninth year, The 1995 Digital News & Review Target Awards
recognizes outstanding performance in the Digital market in 27 categories
comprised of hardware, software, networking, and services. The awards are
voted on by IS professionals and represent a true vote of market
approval.

To qualify for a 1995 Target Award, products must have been introduced or
substantially upgraded and have been shipped between January 1, 1994, and
December 31, 1994. Ballots ran in the March 13th issue of Digital News &
Review, and then were tabulated by an independent service to determine the
winners. Winners will be published in the May 8th edition of Digital News
& Review and announced at DECUS Spring (a related industry trade show) in
Washington, D.C.
