Apple Enhances the Multimedia User Experience with New AppleCD 600e
Quad-Speed CD-ROM Player

Low-Priced Player Offers Access to State-of-the-Art Multimedia
Applications

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (National Association of Broadcasters/Multimedia World
Show)--April 10, 1995--In support of its commitment to offer customers
cutting-edge multimedia hardware at reasonable prices, Apple Computer,
Inc. today unveiled the AppleCD 600e Quad-Speed CD-ROM player. The AppleCD
600e is twice as fast as previous CD-ROM players from Apple, allowing
users access to the latest multimedia applications including those with
full-screen, full-motion video.

"This is yet another example of Apples continued commitment to enriching
the user experience, while setting the standard for ease of use and
providing a significant price/performance advantage," said Satjiv S.
Chahil, vice president and general manager of Apple's New Media Group.
"The affordable AppleCD 600e, at just US$349 ApplePrice, provides a far
richer experience for multimedia consumers for the same price as Apple's
previous double-speed CD- ROM players."

The AppleCD 600e Quad-Speed external CD-ROM player combines the efficient
industrial design, quality and reliability of its award- winning
predecessor with twice the performance. At 684.4 Kbps streaming data
transfer rate, it is faster than most other quad-speed players currently
on the market.

A 256 Kb cache memory will allow it to burst transfer 5.1 Mb per second,
enabling large files to be transferred from a CD-ROM quickly and
efficiently. Access time is 167.5 milliseconds, which provides a
significant reduction in the click and wait time experienced by users with
double speed CD-ROM players. These enhanced performance features combine
to create a much richer, "TV-like" experience for multimedia consumers.

Because it is compatible with multi-session Kodak Photo CD discs, the
AppleCD 600e lets users view photographs on an Apple Macintosh computer
and incorporate them into their documents. As always, customers can use
audio CDs with the player. The AppleCD 600e Quad-Speed CD-ROM player
features a motorized, caddyless tray loader, and the ability to play 3" or
5" CD-ROM and audio CD discs. An internal version--the AppleCD 600i
Quad-Speed--will be built in to new Apple Macintosh and Power Macintosh
systems that include an internal CD-ROM drive starting in the summer of
1995. The AppleCD 600i will also be available in mid-1995 for customers
who want to upgrade existing CD-ROM players (Apple Authorized Dealer
installation is recommended). The AppleCD 600e and AppleCD 600i come with
a one-year limited warranty.

For customers interested in getting started with multimedia, the AppleCD
600e will also be available in the U.S. and Canada as part of a Multimedia
Upgrade Kit including AppleDesign Powered Speakers II, headphones, all
necessary cables and instructions for US$449 ApplePrice.

System Requirements

The AppleCD 600e Quad-Speed CD-ROM player is compatible with Apple
Macintosh, Performa, PowerBook, and Power Macintosh computers running
system software version 7.1 or later.

Price and Availability

The AppleCD 600e is expected to be available in the U.S. and Canada in May
1995 and in Europe and Asia in June 1995. The ApplePrice is US$349.
