Apple USA Enhances Reseller Sourcing Program

CAMPBELL, California--April 3, 1995--In a move to provide greater choices
for its resellers, the Apple USA division of Apple Computer, Inc. today
announced it is increasing the opportunities for authorized resellers to
obtain product through second sourcing. The new program, which will become
effective May 8, will allow Apple authorized resellers to second source
Apple products from any participating Apple authorized aggregator or
distributor regardless of their primary buying relationship, without prior
Apple approval. Previously, resellers were required to obtain individual
approval from Apple before they could second source additional product
from sources outside of their primary distribution relationship.

"Apple's second sourcing program will greatly enhance the flow and
accessibility of product to our resellers and VARs," said Paul Thomas,
director, channel strategy for Apple USA. "Typically, second source
product is purchased from an alternative supplier to fill an unforecasted,
immediate sale, or to complete a large order which is missing a few units
that cannot be purchased from the primary supplier. In responding to
requests from our resellers to broaden their purchasing options, Apple is
taking an important step in making sure that they can more easily purchase
product to fill their needs."

All authorized Apple resellers may participate in the program, with the
exception of Higher Education resellers. Aggregators and distributors who
want to participate in the program will be required to meet electronic
reporting requirements established by Apple, as well as to report all
second sourcing transactions back to the company and honor existing
reseller and product authorizations.

Product purchased under the second sourcing program is not eligible for
Apple reseller programs such as price protection, stock balancing, soft
dollars or flooring. As with primary sourced product, Apple will not set
the prices or any other terms of sale between the reseller and
aggregator/distributor on any product purchased under the second sourcing
program. The program does not affect Apple policies and practices
regarding primary sourced product.
