-----------------------------------------------------------------
SEPTEMBER 6, 1994, MOBILE, AL -- XANTE Corporation introduces the
LaserPress 1200, a 1200 x 1200 dpi laser printer that provides full-bleed
11 x 17 inch capabilities and imagesetter quality halftones that can be
printed at 120 lines per inch and higher. In addition to 1200 dpi, the
standard configuration of the LaserPress 1200 will support user-selectable
600 x 600 dpi draft mode. The LaserPress 1200 is XANTE's second printer
introduced since the company announced their codevelopment agreement with
Adobe Systems, Incorporated in July of this year.

The printer provides the security and benefits offered by Adobe PostScript
Level 2 software as well as HP PCL 5 and HP-GL 7475A emulations. The
ability to automatically switch between the PostScript language and the HP
PCL 5 emulation is supported.

The LaserPress 1200 is designed for high-end graphics environments and is
powered by the 33 MHz AMD 29030 RISC processor. The printer comes standard
with 20 MB RAM and is upgradable to 64 MB with industry standard SIMMs.
Adobe Memory Booster technology is also supported and provides high
performance, 1200 dpi output at compressed memory configurations for all
page sizes supported.

The LaserPress 1200 provides true cross-platform compatibility with
simultaneously active serial, parallel, and AppleTalk interfaces. Ethernet
is provided as a standard feature and supports concurrently active
EtherTalk and TCP/IP protocols. A SCSI disk connection is provided and
allows up to 7 external hard disk drives to be attached to the printer.

Based on Toshiba's TN-7270 laser print engine, the LaserPress 1200 offers
advanced paper handling capabilities. Included in the standard
configuration are a 250-sheet universal cassette, supporting all page
sizes up to and including 11 x 17/A3, and a multipurpose feeder supporting
all page sizes, as well as envelopes and oversize 12 x 19 inch pages. An
optional 250-sheet feeder with cassette is available.

"The LaserPress 1200 offers output quality that cannot be matched by any
other laser printer on the market, " stated XANTE's vice president of
marketing, Martin Kennedy. "We are targeting the high end graphics market
where output quality and product reliability are the top requirements.
With Adobe PostScript software and XANTE' s resolution technology, the
LaserPress 1200 answers these requirements."

"Creative professionals in the graphic arts industry demand high
resolution, fast print speeds, and true Adobe PostScript at a competitive
price," said Steve MacDonald, senior vice president and general manager of
Adobe's systems Products Division. "The LaserPress 1200, with Adobe
PostScript Level 2 software, is designed to meet these stringent
requirements. We are pleased to work with XANTE to satisfy the printing
needs of this key market."

The LaserPress 1200 supports XANTE's Halftone Calibration Technology,
enabling users to adjust the gamma curve of scanned images, gray scales,
and other halftones when printing. This technology, coupled with the
superior imaging system provided by this printer, enables users to print
1200 dpi text, line art, and halftones of 120 lines per inch and higher.

PRINTER FEATURES

Adobe PostScript Level 2 Software - The LaserPress 1200 offers the
reliability, assurance of compatibility, and high performance provided by
Adobe PostScript Level 2 software. Adobe PostScript Level 2 software
offers several benefits, including enhanced file and memory management
schemes, data compression, forms support, pattern caching, and composite
font support.

High Resolution - The XANTE LaserPress 1200 provides 1200 x 1200 dpi
resolution for typeset quality output. It is further enhanced with
ultra-fine toner to make text edges smoother, line art sharper, and
graphics c leaner. The output is well suited for camera-ready materials
and final product uses such as newsletters, on demand documentation, and
engineering drawings.

Halftone Calibration Technology - The LaserPress 1200 allows the end user
to adjust the gamma curve of halftones easily from the printer's front
panel. This technology addresses a common problem of images appearing too
dark when printed at higher line screens as a result of fewer levels of
gray. Adjustments can be made to lighten the mid-tones, bringing out
details lost with the fewer levels of gray, while leaving parts of the
image which are intended to print at completely black or white unaffected.
Halftones and gray scale images up to 120 lines per inch can be achieved.

Paper Handling-The LaserPress 1200 supports two input sources in its base
configuration. A 250-sheet universal cassette is provided and can be
configured to support all page sizes up to and including 11 x 17/A3. A
150-sheet multipurpose feeder is also provided and supports all standard
page sizes, envelopes and 12 x 19 inch oversized paper. The oversized
paper supports a printable region of 11.62 x 18.7 inches and allows for
full-bleed 11 x 17 printing with enough room for crop marks.

An optional 250-sheet universal cassette and feeder is available.

HP PCL 5, HP-GL 7475A, and Automatic Emulation Switching - The LaserPress
1200 ships with HP PCL 5 and HP-GL 7475A emulations for CAD/CAE and other
applications that do not currently support the PostScript language. HP-GL
plots can be printed at 1200 x 1200 dpi. Also included is resident code
that allows automatic switching between HP PCL 5 and the PostScript
language.

High Performance Controller Architecture - The XANTE designed controller
makes use of the 33 MHz AMD 29030 RISC processor and 20 MB RAM to provide
high performance printing. The printer is upgradable to 64 MB with
user-installable SIMM modules.

Simultaneous Interfacing - RS-232 serial, Centronics parallel, and
AppleTalk interfaces are included and can all be active simultaneously for
seamless, cross-platform support. Other standard interfaces include
Ethernet running concurrently active EtherTalk and TCP/IP protocols and a
SCSI interface supporting external disk connection for additional font and
form storage.

Font Handling - In addition to providing a standard of 35 resident
typefaces, XANTE includes support for TrueType fonts and Adobe's Type 1
downloadable fonts.

TARGET MARKETS & APPLICATIONS

The LaserPress 1200 is targeted at several markets that share common
interests: high resolution output, extensive paper handling capabilities,
fast processing, and cross platform flexibility. The printer can be used
to produce camera-ready output on plain paper for many applications
including newsletters, brochures, newspapers, documentation, catalogs, and
others.

The principle market that is attracted to the LaserPress 1200 is the
growing desktop publishing field. Service bureaus, print shops, and ad
agencies make use of the higher resolution capabilities which provide
smooth text and line art, and unmatched scanned and other halftone images.
The large page size support provides flexibility in full 11 x 17 inch page
bleeds, 2 page spreads, and many other applications.

Both large and small corporations with a mixture of Macintosh,
PC/compatibles, UNIX, and other workstation environments benefit from the
interface flexibility. The LaserPress 1200's print quality greatly
improves newsletters, documentation, product brochures, and other forms of
literature normally sent outside the company, often eliminating the
necessity of out-of-house printing.
