BlueWater Ships Advanced Real-Time Development Tool Kit

New driver development kit offers NT and "Chicago" compatibility.

(Edmonds, WA) -- BlueWater Systems announced the "WinRT Tool Kit", a
programmers tool kit for developing Win32 real-time applications for
Windows NT.

Win32 developers can now write programs to directly access port I/O, memory
I/O, and interrupts without the complexities and delays (and future
Chicago incompatibilities) that come with Microsoft's Windows NT Device
Driver Kit (the NT DDK). Typical usage of the WinRT Tool Kit includes
connecting unsupported peripherals and custom hardware (such as data
acquisition cards, I/O interfaces and prototype hardware).

"The real beauty is that programmers can write tightly coupled device
drivers to control their unsupported interface cards without battling the
Microsoft Windows NT Device Driver Kit," says Paul Lever, President of
BlueWater Systems.

"The heart of the tool kit is the WinRT Device Driver," continued Mr.
Lever. "Instead of requiring developers to learn 250+ API calls like the
DDK requires, users of BlueWater's WinRT can quickly write tightly coupled
device drivers requiring only 3 API calls. The WinRT Tool Kit further
eases its already short learning curve by providing templates for
developing real-time threads and connecting them to Visual Basic, Visual
C++, and other programming languages."

Two market changes have occurred very recently: First, Windows NT and Win32
now provide true pre-emptive multi-tasking on bargain-priced systems with
substantial processing power. And second, users now demand that real-time
application developers implement the full graphical user interface of
Windows, giving up forever the old-style character mode displays. The
result is that BlueWater's advanced tools for developing Windows device
interfaces avoids the greatly increased time-to-market for new hardware
control system applications that would result if started from scratch with
the NT DDK. In addition, marketing departments find that providing the
Windows interface is a sales tool. Customers find their products are more
intuitive, easier to learn and easier to use.

"Running on an Intel 486DX33/66 processor, WinRT drivers can process in
excess of 2,000 interrupts per second and can service the requirements of
the most demanding applications," noted Mr. Lever. "While the user's
tightly coupled NT thread handles the bulk of the real-time work, hardware
control is quickly accomplished by the WinRT Driver. Another of our
concerns was to strictly maintain system integrity and security by
enforcing use of the NT Registry. "

The WinRT Tool Kit is available at $595 for single users and includes six
months of technical support. WinRT includes: the WinRT Device Driver with
royalty free runtime, the WinRT preprocessor, DOS simulator, the NT
Registry editor, extensive samples, and support.
