First V.34 Modem Targeted at Home and SOHO Market

SKOKIE, Ill. -- September 7, 1994 -- U.S. Robotics, Inc. (NASDAQ: USRX)
today shipped its first Sportster V.34 modem. The company is the first to
offer V.34-compliant products for the home and small-office/home-office
(SOHO) market. The company is currently shipping Courier V.34 modems for
the corporate market. List price of the Sportster V.34 internal is $329;
the Sportster V.34 external lists at $349; the Sportster V.34 Mac&FAX at
$369.

The Sportster V.34 Data/Fax modem includes the ITU-T V.34 standard for 28.8
Kbps communications. It is also backward-compatible with the Rockwell
V.Fast Class 28.8 Kbps proprietary protocol, as well as the ITU-T V.32 bis
14.4 Kbps standard and other lower-speed protocols. The Sportster uses
U.S. Robotics' DSP-based technology to provide multiple high-speed
modulation protocols, ensuring compatibility with the installed modem
base.

"The Sportster V.34 provides affordable access to the new, international
standard for 28.8 Kbps communications," said Michael Seedman, vice
president and general manger of the Personal Communications Division. "As
the world quickly adopts the V.34 standard, Sportster owners will be able
to maximize their BBS, on-line service, Internet and gaming activities."

Upgrades to V.34 for existing Sportster 28.8 V.FC modems are also now
available. Sportster 28.8s are easily field upgradable by replacing an
EPROM chip. An upgrade kit, which includes the EPROM chip, a chip puller
and documentation, is available for $29 plus postage direct from U.S.
Robotics. Sportster owners can also send their modem to the factory for
upgrading for $49 plus shipping.

Every Sportster V.34 modem is bundled with software and membership offers
from six of the most popular commercial online services: America OnLine,
Prodigy, CompuServe, GEnie, Imagination Network and the Smart Investor
Network. Additionally, all Sportster V.34 modems are bundled with
QuickLink II fax and data communications software for DOS and Windows from
