The Final Fantasy III Story

Millennia ago a war of unimaginable power rocked the world.Beings known as
Espers, imbued with awesome magic abilities, were made to fight each other
until the world's surface was reduced to smoldering rubble. Unable to stop
what they had started, the Espers' anger finally culminated in the total
extermination of their kind, as well as most of humanity. Magic
disappeared from the world forever.

Centuries have passed. The world's survivors have rediscovered iron,
gunpowder and steam engines. Using machines, people have built a rational
world, where magic and the mysterious Espers exist only in ancient tales
and legends. That is, until word is received that an Esper, frozen solid
since the time ofthe Great Magi Wars, has been discovered...

Soon, reports of magical attacks are being circulated. One, in particular,
tells of a mysterious woman who fries 50 armored warriors in just a few
minutes. Moreover, Imperial Commandos have begun launching raids using
magic-powered weapons. It is obvious that magic didn't die a permanent
death, and that Espers are not only the substance of dreams and legends.
But who or what is behind the rediscovery and deployment of this legendary
power? What plans might they have for this mechanized, rigid new world..?

REDMOND, WA - September 1, 1994 -- Square Soft, Inc. will release Final
Fantasy III, the long-awaited new adventure in this best-selling RPG
series. At 24 MEGs, Final Fantasy III will be Square's biggest game to
date. It will be one of only a handful of 24 MEG cartridges available for
the Super NES this fall.

Final Fantasy III was created and produced by Hironobu Sakaguchi, the same
individual responsible for all titles in the Final Fantasy series, which,
in total, has sold over 10 million units world-wide. Final Fantasy II
(SNES) is still an actively retailed title 3 years after its initial U.S.
release!

During the course of Final Fantasy III, Sakaguchi's most visually stunning
epic to date, a player will ride aboard trains, race through a mine shaft,
travel on the back of rideable birds, and soar through the sky in
airships. For those who have never played an RPG like this, the experience
can be deeply absorbing. A player feels like he or she is actively
participating in the adventure, making the same kinds of decisions that
would be required if the player were there in person.

A handful of eccentric and unforgettable characters help to propel an
intricate and powerful plot forward. These characters join, and then
accompany you on your quest. They include:

Terra, who represents the rebirth of magic. She has abilities the likes of
which no one in the world has seen before. The evil army has tried to
harness her magic powers, but the magic of the Espers will see to it that
she will escape from the army's control.

Locke, the great treasure hunter, who doesn't mind breaking a few locks in
his search for fame and fortune. Nevertheless, he'd rather be called a
hero than a thief.

Mog, chief of the Moogles. Don't let his cute looks deceive you!The teddy
bear-like Mog can fight with a vengeance, especially when he has learned
his powerful, magical dances. Mog is generally a peaceful creature, but he
can make a big commotion if the need should arise.

Edgar, the King of Figaro castle and master of machinery. His skills make
him handy with machinery and weapons. He fancies himself a ladies' man,
but moves in that direction never result in success.

Sabin, the brother of King Edgar. After a falling-out with his family, Sabin
left for the mountains and learned the martial arts. Sabin's Blitz
techniques and strong conviction make him a good member of the team.

Cyan, soldier and swordsman of Doma Castle. An enemy attack on the castle
has convinced him to join the resistance against the evil army. His sword
technique will prove to be very useful.

Gau, the wild boy of the Veldt.Gau was thrown out of his home as a
youngster, and had to fend for himself on the wilds of the Veldt. He now
lives and communicates with the animals. If you can manage to get Gau to
join your party, you'll be able to use his abilities to learn the powers
of the Veldt animals.

Shadow, the mysterious ninja and notorious loner. His only friend is his
dog, Interceptor. When Shadow joins the party, he brings with him the
ability to throw objects with deadly accuracy.

Celes, former General of the evil army. She has since been disillusioned by
the army and has decided to join the resistance. She has command over the
Runic Blade, which absorbs enemy spells.

Setzer, wealthy owner of the only Airship in the world. He likes to fly and
gamble, too. When Sezter joins your party, you'll be able to use his
Airship to travel to remote parts of the world. Check out his special Slot
Machine skill-based attack!

Strago, an elderly man who is in fact a powerful Blue Mage. He has the
ability to learn the spells of some enemy attackers, but he must feel the
effect of those spells before he can use them.

Relm, the granddaughter of Strago.Relm is a great artist and a friend to
Shadow's dog. She can sketch enemies, and attack with their powers through
her drawings!

These, and other allies will join you on your quest as you try to discover
the secret behind the revival of Magitek power. Final Fantasy III offers
some of the finest graphics ever to appear on the Super NES. These,
together with a captivating story line promise an experience unlike any
other in the gaming world. No wonder Diehard Gamefan said of Final Fantasy
III, "I kneel in reverence to the brilliance shown by the programmers at
Square."
