VERTICAL TECHNOLOGIES, INC. ANNOUNCES RELEASE OF SCAN-ONE FOR PCMCIA,
PROVIDING GREATER MOBILITY FOR BAR CODE READER USERS

September 23, 1994, Salt Lake City, Utah--Vertical Technologies, Inc.
announced today the release of SCAN-ONE for PCMCIA, bringing bar coding
further into the world of mobile computing.

SCAN-ONE, Vertical Technologies' award winning device driver bar code
reader, is now available in a special PCMCIA package for laptop and other
mobile computing devices. This package includes a Type II PCMCIA card and
cable in addition to the SCAN-ONE wand, connector and software. The
SCAN-ONE CCD for PCMCIA and the SCAN-ONE Laser for PCMCIA, are also
planned for future release.

"Computers are becoming more mobile," stated David Carter, President of
Vertical Technologies, "as bar code usage grows, solutions like this one
for laptops and other mobile devices will make people more productive.
Also, our technology will finally allow CCD and laser bar code readers to
work with laptops without extra batteries or power requirements!"

PCMCIA stands for Personal Computer Memory Card International Association.
These devices were developed to give laptop, palmtop, PDA, and other
mobile computing device users a compact interface mechanism for
adding--via an outside slot--modems, extra storage, network cards and
other peripherals without physically opening the computer. The popularity
of PCMCIA cards has moved the computer industry to add PCMCIA slots to
some desktop computers.

Scan-One for PCMCIA has brought portable bar code scanning and collection
to the PC, diminishing the need for separate collection and tracking
systems. For example, a shop foreman on the factory floor or a salesperson
out on the road might need to collect bar code data remotely. In the past,
they were limited to costly portable bar code readers designed for just
that purpose--reading bar codes. Now they can use their own existing
mobile devices (laptops, palmtops, PDA's, etc.) for remote bar code data
collection and eliminate excess cost and task duplication.

SCAN-ONE for PCMCIA is extremely easy to install and use. The user simply
plugs the PCMCIA card into their computer's PCMCIA slot, plugs the bar
code input device to the PCMCIA card, loads the software driver, sets the
options, and then reads away!
