PROXIM INTRODUCES EASY-TO-INTEGRATE WIRELESS LAN ADAPTER FOR OEMS
DEVELOPING MOBILE PLATFORMS

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Sept. 12, 1994 -- Proxim, Inc., the leader in
wireless local area networking, today introduced RangeLAN2/OEM, a 2.4
gigahertz (GHz) frequency hopping spread spectrum wireless LAN adapter
designed specifically for mobile computing applications. RangeLAN2/OEM is
an integrated hardware and software package that allows developers to
easily incorporate sophisticated wireless networking capabilities into
portable computer platforms and handheld data terminals.

RangeLAN2/OEM includes a 2.4 GHz frequency hopping spread spectrum radio
and network controller in a compact, single-piece package optimized for
throughput, coverage and mobility. It offers sophisticated wireless
networking features combined with industry standard interfaces to assure
quick and inexpensive integration.
Industry-Leading Technology

With a data rate of 1.6 megabits per second (Mbps) per channel expandable
to 24 Mbps system wide, RangeLAN2/OEM is the fastest frequency hopping
spread spectrum product commercially available. RangeLAN2/OEM features the
longest range of any product in its class, enabling OEMs to offer
cost-effective wireless networking coverage. Proxim' s innovative
RangeLAN2 architecture provides an unmatched seamless roaming capability
and sophisticated power management features that reduce battery
consumption and increase transmission time. In addition, RangeLAN2/OEM's
extremely compact size (3.75" x 2.2" x 0.36") and light weight (just 1.5
ounces) make it ideal for size- and weight-sensitive applications.

"RangeLAN2/OEM brings the technology of wireless communications to OEMs
with a standard ISA interface and standard NDIS and ODT network drivers to
allow for easy and cost-effective integration into portable computing
platforms," said Brian Button, Proxim's vice president of marketing.
"Because RangeLAN2/OEM offers the levels of throughput, coverage and
mobility which OEMs require for high performance network applications,
this product will pave the way for many new mobile uses."

"Zenith Data Systems has evaluated the wireless LAN technology available
from all leading suppliers and determined that Proxim offers the best
solution for long range and high throughput," said Chris Gladwin, director
of product strategy for Zenith Data Systems' (ZDS) Mobile Systems Group.
ZDS has selected Proxim's RangeLAN2/OEM product for integration into a
future generation of mobile computing platforms.

Ease-of-Integration

RangeLAN2/OEM has been designed to make integration into portable platforms
as easy as possible by incorporating industry-standard hardware and
software interfaces. Physical connection to a mobile system is made easy
through a standard PC/ISA interface. An industry standard software
interface is provided through ODI and NDIS drivers which support most
client/server and peer-to-peer LAN operating systems, including NetWare,
NetWare Lite, LAN Manager, Windows for Workgroups and LANtastic.

Roaming, power management and synchronization capabilities are all
addressed by Proxim's unique media access control (MAC) layer protocols,
dramatically reducing design-in time and effort and enabling OEMs to
achieve faster time-to-market. RangeLAN2/OEM includes an array of site
survey and diagnostic tools to facilitate development and testing under
various configuration environments.

RangeLAN2/OEM is fully compatible with the rest of Proxim's RangeLAN2
family of wireless LAN products, allowing wireless capabilities to be
incorporated into any platform and extended to meet the needs of any
computing environment. Proxim' s RangeLAN2 family of products were the
first to incorporate the high speed, frequency hopping modulation
technique approved by the IEEE 802.11 committee as part of its proposed
draft standard in March 1994.

A RangeLAN2/OEM developer kit which includes a RangeLAN2/OEM and
RangeLAN2/ISA card, software and documentation, is available immediately
at a price of $2,950.

RangeLAN2 Product Family

Proxim is the leading supplier of wireless spread spectrum radio networking
products for local area environments and is at the forefront of the
emerging wireless LAN market. In June 1993, Proxim introduced RangeLAN2, a
family of high performance wireless LAN products designed for the office
environment. The RangeLAN2 family includes RangeLAN2/PCMCIA for notebook
and handheld computers, RangeLAN2/ISA for desktop PCs and servers, and
RangeLAN2/Access Point, a transparent bridge product for
protocol-independent wireless access to Ethernet LANs.

Founded in 1984, Proxim is headquartered in Mountain View, Calif. To date
the company has shipped more than 70,000 spread spectrum radio products.
Proxim's RangeLAN2 product family is distributed nationally by Tech Data.
Proxim's shares are traded on the NASDAQ National Market System under the
symbol PROX.
