Novell Selects Folio Infobase Technology for Its New Network Support
Encyclopedia on CD ROM

Huge Collection of Network Troubleshooting Information Now Instantly
Accessible and Easily Adaptable for Varying Enterprise Needs

PROVO, Utah, September 12, 1994 -- Folio Corporation today announced that
Novell, Inc. has chosen Folio VIEWS software to build the new
cross-platform version of the recently released Novell Network Support
Encyclopedia Professional Volume (NSEPro). The CD ROM provides technical
information on Novell products and on the hundreds of NetWare-compatible
hardware and software products that can be used to form a Novell NetWare
network.

The latest NSEPro is the first version to be based on the award-winning
Folio VIEWS 3.01 software, which is cross-platform compatible for Windows,
Macintosh and DOS. In addition, the NSEPro includes UNIX support using the
Windows emulation capability built into Novell's UnixWare product.

"Folio's new graphical interface opens up multiple desktop platforms for
NSEPro customers," said Rick Maw, product line manager of Electronic
Information for Novell. "We have also incorporated the full-indexing
feature of FolioVIEWS and its superior access speed across the network.
The fact that we have used Folio VIEWS for our on-line Help was also
important in our decision."

According to Maw, "Future NSE releases will also include query templates, a
new Folio feature that is part of the Folio VIEWS 3.1 product released in
July. In the future, the new query template will allow us to build in
customized searches that make complex queries easy for customers who don't
have the time or inclination to learn the search operators. For these
customers, the search operators will be behind the scenes."

The Folio software used by Novell gives network administrators, resellers,
software developers, OEMs, endusers and others throughout the world
instant access to network troubleshooting solutions and product
information. The new CD ROM has 180 megabytes (MB) of technical
information. Using Folio's Underhead compression technology, Novell was
able to compress the original 180 MB data file to 110 MB for the CD ROM.

By using Folio VIEWS software, Novell was able to include extensive links
and cross references including program links into slide show software for
product presentations. In addition, Novell customers who choose to
purchase the full-featured Folio VIEWS product directly from Folio can
annotate, customize and adapt the NSEPro information to meet the varying
needs of their organizations, with user-definable hypertext and hypermedia
links, shadow files, pop-up notes, searchable fields and more.

Novell's new NSEPro is the latest project in a long-standing relationship
between Novell, Inc., and Folio Corporation, both of Provo, Utah. For the
past three years, Novell has used earlier versions of Folio software for
the NSE, distributing up to 12 updates annually, first on diskettes and
more recently on CD ROM.

Inside the Network Support Encyclopedia

Like a printed encyclopedia, the online information in the NSEPro is
organized into "books" grouping information into the following
categories:

* What's New summarizes the updated or new information for each
  release.
* Service and Support includes updated files and
  problem/resolution pointers from Novell Technical Support;
optimization tips for NetWare and applications that run on
it in the form of Novell Application Notes from June 1990 to
the present; Novell Professional Developer Bullets with
information of special interest to developers; and updates
on third-party product certification from the Novell Hardware
  and Software Labs.
* Sales and Marketing contains press releases, the Novell Buyers
Guide, product presentations and success stories.
* NetWare Update provides software updates such as downloadable
patches, updated files and drivers for Novell products.
* Product Manuals offers documentation dating back to 1985 and
includes NetWare 3.12 and NetWare 4.0 manuals.
* About NetWire helps users get the most from Novell's CompuServe
  services.
* New User Information gives users an overview of the NSEPro and
instructs them on how to use Folio VIEWS.

About Folio Infobase Technology

The Folio VIEWS family of software products is used for creating, managing,
and distributing infobase applications. Conceptually, infobases are
similar to databases but are specifically designed for rapidly accessing,
compiling, and adapting large amounts of frequently changing electronic
reference information.

Typical Folio infobase applications include electronic publishing
(commercial and corporate), front-line service (customer support, sales
support, field engineering, help desk, litigation support, etc.), and
research.

It is estimated that Folio Infobase Technology currently resides on more
than 30 million desktops in the form of Folio VIEWS, Novell NetWare Help
and as the delivery mechanism for a thousand titles from more than 300
commercial publishers on CD ROM and diskette.

Folio VIEWS 3.0 for Windows has received the following industry awards: a
1993 MVP (Most Valuable Product) award from PC/Computing magazine, a 1993
Award of Distinction from BYTE magazine, a 1994 WIN 100 Award from Windows
Magazine, and the 1994 Award of Technical Excellence from France's
PCExpert magazine.
