ICCA to Consider New Code of Ethics and Standard and Practices Guide at
Annual Conference in October

September 7, 1994 -- (ST. LOUIS, MO) Members of the Independent Computer
Consultants Association, an 18 year old non-profit organization, agree to
abide by the association's Code of Ethics. The Code is comprised of
statements that outline ethical behavior. For the first time since the
adoption of the original Code, the ICCA's Board of Directors will consider
revisions at the association's Annual Conference to be held October 19-22
at the Westin South Coast Plaza Hotel in Costa Mesa, California. In
addition, the Board of Directors will take under advisement the ICCA's
first Standards and Practices guide, which is intended to help not only
its members, but the computer consulting industry as a whole.

"ICCA's Code of Ethics protects consultants and consumers alike by
establishing a criteria of professional standards and expectations,"
explains Carl Brown, Chairman of ICCA's Professional Standards & Practices
Committee. "The revisions will make this Code of Ethics more positive and
easier to understand . n

A portion of the current Code of Ethics states, "A member shall not
knowingly misrepresent facts nor in any recommendation shall a member
subordinate his/her judgement to others." The recommended change is as
follows: "Consultants will only represent opinions as independent if they
are free from subordinated judgement and there is no undisclosed interest
in the outcome of the client's decision."

"The new Standards and Practices guidelines for the Independent Computer
Consultants Association outline professional conduct expected of its
members when they deal with clients which," Brown notes, "will show our
commitment to our clients' best interests."

According to the general mission statement of the proposed Standards and
Practices project, consultants would not be required to comply with the
standards in all cases, and specific circumstances must be tempered by
good judgement. Examples of the proposed Standards and Practices document
are, "Consultants will strive to avoid improprieties, as well as the
appearance of improprieties." "Consultants who are unable to
professionally complete part or all of the contract, will be forthright
and will offer to aid the client in finding resources to complete the
contract satisfactorily."

The Independent Computer Consultants Association (ICCA) is a non-profit
organization based in St. Louis, Missouri, founded in 1976, with
approximately 2000 member firms and 23 chapters across the country. ICCA's
mission is to support the success of independent computer consultants in
providing professional services to their clients.
