IBM Celebrates Certification Programs' Success

NETWORLD+INTEROP, ATLANTA, Sept. 12, 1994 . . . More than 600 products and
1,000 software professionals have been qualified through IBM's Personal
Software Products certification programs since they were announced a year
ago.

The "Ready! for IBM LAN" and "Tested and Approved for IBM LAN Systems"
certified product list identifies products compatible in the IBM LAN
environment. The professional certification program identifies software
professionals who are proficient in servicing and supporting IBM OS/2 and
LAN Server products.

"Customers who buy certified products can do so with the confidence that
the products are compatible in a designated LAN environment," said Phil
Powers, director of marketing, LAN Systems, Personal Software Products
division. "This can reduce decision time, as well as the costs associated
with buying hardware and software."

The "Ready! for IBM LAN" certification mark is earned by software vendors
through self-testing under IBM guidelines for product compatibility with
IBM LAN Server. The "Tested and Approved for IBM LAN Systems"
certification mark signifies a product has been tested in an IBM lab for
compatibility, interoperability and coexistence in a real-world,
heterogeneous LAN Systems environment. IBM tests products in its Austin,
Texas, Integration Test Lab which is configured with IBM and non-IBM
hardware and software to reproduce a typical customer environment.

"Buying pretested, certified products can give a business a networking
technology edge in today's competitive business environment," said Powers.
Lists of products bearing these marks are available at major networking
trade shows and through a variety of other public sources.

The IBM Professional Certification program has certified more than 1,000
software professionals since it began testing in May. More than 1,500
additional software professionals are well on their way to completing
their certification requirements.

Since testing began, more than 7,500 certification tests have been taken in
countries around the world by individuals interested in attaining the IBM
Professional Engineer, Professional Instructor or Professional LAN
Administrator status. The certification designates professionals who are
proficient in servicing and supporting IBM personal software products.
