EXABYTE AND CHEYENNE JOIN FORCES TO PROVIDE COST-EFFECTIVE BACKUP FOR SMALL
NETWORKS

Cheyenne FIRSTserve Bundled with an Exabyte DAT Drive

ATLANTA, Ga, Sept. 12, 1994 -- Beginning this October and for a limited
time only, purchasers of Exabyte 4mm DAT drives will receive a copy of
Cheyenne Software's FIRSTserve, provided at no additional cost. For the
same price as an Exabyte DAT drive kit alone, the combination of an
Exabyte 4mm drive and Cheyenne FIRSTserve provides not only a
NetWare-ready backup kit, but also the best value for a DAT backup
solution today. FIRSTserve is a high-performance, NetWare Loadable Module
(NLM-based) single-server backup solution with a Windows manager. If
needed, FIRSTserve can be easily upgraded by Cheyenne to the industry's
leading client/server backup solution for NetWare networks, Cheyenne
ARCserve.

Exabyte Corp. (NASDAQ: EXBT) and Cheyenne Software, Inc. (AMEX: CYE)
announced the joint promotional program today at the NetWorld+Interop
trade show, taking place this week in Atlanta.

The promotion is available in Europe from select distributors and in North
America from the following distributors: GBC/Vitek, Gates, Intelligent
Electronics, MPS, Merisel, Merisel Canada, Merisel Latin America, Microage
and Tech Data

Exabyte's EXB-4200/4200c (along with a manual, cable and 4mm EXATAPE data
cartridge) represents the DAT drive portion of the NetWare-ready backup
kit. The EXB-4200 is ideal for meeting the capacity needs of single-server
networks, with its capacity of 2 gigabytes and a transfer rate of 233
kilobytes per second. Using the DDS-standard DDS-DC data compression, the
ESB-4200c doubles capacity on average to 4 gigabytes and the transfer rate
to 466 kilobytes per second. The low-parts-count design of Exabyte's 4mm
drives leads to high reliability of 80,000 hours
mean-time-between-failures and a bit error rate of less than one in every
10**15 bits read.

FIRSTserve, the Cheyenne product provided with the purchase of an
ESB-4200/4200c DAT drive, is an NLM-based automated backup/restore
solution. Although designed for small client/server architectures,
FIRSTserve offers a number of high-performance features, such as selective
file restore, data management automation (including disk grooming and
disaster recovery) and tape cascading. At the same time, FIRSTserve is
easy to load (installation is via a Windows interface) and use (a few
mouse clicks are all that's required to begin backing up).

"We developed this promotional kit with Cheyenne to offer a solution that
resellers consistently request: NLM backup software and 4mm DAT," said
Peter D. Behrendt, Exabyte's chairman of the board, president and chief
executive officer. "It's an affordable, effective answer to storage needs,
backed by two industry leaders."

"The combination of FIRSTserve software and Exabyte DAT drives is the ideal
solution for today's smaller client/server architectures," said James
McNiel, Cheyenne Software's executive vice president for business
development. "DAT technology offers low price and the needed capacity and
transfer rate. FIRSTserve delivers the same high-quality data management
solution as ARCserve to the smaller network user, who typically has not
had access to this level of technology."

FIRSTserve has been designed to be easily upgraded, when network needs
grow, to the more comprehensive ARCserve for NetWare Windows Edition.
FIRSTserve customers can upgrade to ARCserve for NetWare 50-user level for
$1,195 [U.S.], or they can upgrade to ARCserve for NetWare 250-user level
for $1,895 [U.S.] by calling Cheyenne Software at 1-800-243-9462 or (516)
484-5110. FIRSTserve and ARCserve share the same interface, reducing the
learning curve for upgrade customers.
