Sept 7, 1994 -- SAN FRANCISCO -- OLE technology is a key element of Digital
Communications Associates Inc.'s (DCA) client/server product development
and appears most recently in DCA's new NetWizard software -- announced
today -- the industry's first distributed software management solution for
corporate networks.

Support for the OLE technology, developed by Microsoft Corporation to
enable the exchange of information between applications, spans DCA's IBM
and Unisys host communications and GroupWare product offerings, and has
been incorporated into products including QuickApp, a communications
middleware development tool; OpenMind, DCA's new groupware application;
and now NetWizard.

"DCA's communications software enables customers to extend client/server
into the enterprise by seamlessly integrating information on host systems
into new client/server applications," said Kevin O'Connor, DCA's chief
technology officer and vice president, research. "With OLE's advanced
technology, users of our products can take full advantage of its powerful
features such as linking data between applications, dragging and dropping
from one application to another and object automation services."

QuickApp's support of Microsoft OLE Controls enables it to be used by
developers with Microsoft Visual Basic programming system language to
automatically generate communications code -- transparent to the user --
that integrates legacy data located in a host application with
client/server-based applications.

For example, because OLE Controls have been incorporated into QuickApp, an
accountant could access a company's general ledger application, simply
click on fields needed to update a budget report, then drag these fields
into the appropriate field in the spreadsheet. The result is a new
spreadsheet application that is automatically updated with host-based
information.

The use of OLE in DCA's OpenMind groupware application enables users to
create automated intelligent agents that link information between OpenMind
and external information sources, such as host-based applications,
relational databases or the Internet.

QuickApp is a component of DCA's Universal Communications Architecture
(UCA), which enables customers to evolve from a host-based communications
environment to the new, client/server computing environment while
protecting legacy application investments.

OpenMind, announced last month, is a client/server groupware application
for companies requiring a ready-to-use enterprise-wide in-house
information service. With OpenMind, groups work together collaboratively
to exchange ideas, share files, lend internal data with external
information and manage an enterprise's knowledge resources.

NetWizard, developed as an object, functions as both a discrete application
and through OLE, as an embedded object as well. With the added OLE
technology, NetWizard can be embedded into other OLE-based applications.

Located in metro Atlanta with offices worldwide, DCA is an international
leader in providing personal computer communications solutions for host
and remote information access. DCA's host access communications software
and development tools improve business processes and leverage corporate
investments. DCA facilitates the integration of information on existing
IBM, Unisys, DEC, Unix and HP systems into new client/server applications.
DCA's software products for remote communications give users complete
access to corporate data and information services, regardless of where
they may be located.
