CYRIX INTRODUCES OPEN DESKTOP MULTI-PROCESSOR ARCHITECTURE
Supports Both x86 and PowerPC Implementations

Richardson, Texas - September 12, 1994 -- Cyrix Corporation (NASDAQ: CYRX),
Cyrix Corporation, a manufacturer of high-performance x86 microprocessors,
has announced SLiC/MP, a new open interrupt architecture for
multi-processor desktop computers. This multiprocessor interrupt
architecture offers a PC compatible, high performance solution for system
designers and supports all major operating systems, as well as both x86
and PowerPC-based platforms. The architecture's specs have been endorsed
by various manufacturers, including IBM Microelectronics and Motorola.

The Cyrix SLiC/MP architecture, easily integrated into existing single
processor chipsets, provides flexibility for use with today's, and
tomorrow's, microprocessors. With the use of SLiC/MP, these chipsets will
offer a high-performance, inexpensive solution for the dual-processor
desktop system. Cyrix also provides non-exclusive SLiC/MP licenses, at no
cost, to chipset vendors and system manufacturers.

"Cyrix is contributing a new standard to the industry," said Steve Domenik,
vice president of marketing at Cyrix. "The significance of SLiC/MP is far
reaching -- we're providing a solution to vendors and system manufactures
alike, and we're making it available to everyone, from hardware
manufactures to competitors."

OPEN ARCHITECTURE

Until now, there have been no widely accepted interrupt architectures,
forcing vendors to use proprietary solutions. While standards have been
proposed, such as Intel's APIC, there have been uncertainties about
intellectual property restrictions attached to such proposals. Cyrix has
instead designed a truly open architecture that supports Cyrix, AMD,
Intel, and all other RISC/CISC architectures, without restrictions,
licensing fees or royalties.

"The SLiC/MP provides a truly open platform that is compatible with PowerPC
microprocessors," said Charlie Ashton, product marketing manager at
Motorola. "This will enable system designers to take advantage of the
PowerPC architecture, which was designed to provide optimal
multi-processing capabilities."

Drew Dutton, strategic marketing manager from Advanced Micro Devices added,
"AMD believes in open architectures which benefit both vendors and
customers. We are pleased to see Cyrix take this approach."

LOW COST, FLEXIBLE SOLUTION

Cyrix has invested in the research to fully develop the SLiC/MP technology,
saving chipset manufactures a costly R&D investment. The architecture is
easily integrated into single processor chipsets through the use of
Verilog logic models provided by Cyrix. This provides the technology to
support today's desktop systems, as well as future multi-processor
systems. Chipsets employing the SLiC/MP architecture are less expensive to
implement and less expensive to manufacture, as a result of lower gate
counts and smaller die.

"Our Apollo chipset is the first on the market that brings the SLiC/MP
solution to the desktop," commented Dick Renne, marketing director for VIA
Technologies, Inc., a leading chipset developer. "Using the existing
interrupt pin, the Cyrix SLiC/MP is easy to integrate into existing

single processor technology or multi-processor chipsets. It also doesn't
demand a new bus protocol, and we don't have to worry about any patent
obstacles."

OPTI, Inc., has also made a commitment to implementing and supporting
SLiC/MP in their upcoming 64-bit chipset.

FOCUS ON THE FUTURE

Cyrix's development of SLiC/MP underlines the company's commitment to
developing innovative technologies that expand the overall PC market and
ensure the rapid development of open, high performance desktop
multi-processor systems. Cyrix has focused the initial SLiC/MP
implementation on desktop systems and is working with other vendors to
define an extended version to support future server designs.

AVAILABILITY

SLiC/MP is available now. More than a dozen chipset vendors have licensed
the architecture, In addition to VIA and OPTI, several vendors including
ALI, EFAR, ETEQ, Samsung and VTI, are presently working on SLiC/MP
implementations. First International Computer, Taiwan's largest
motherboard manufacturer, will have a SLiC/MP-based motherboard available
in the fourth quarter of 1994. There are no restrictions, licensing fees
or royalty costs incurred in implementing the Cyrix SLiC/MP architecture.
