Asante Expands MacCon Family of Ethernet LAN Adapters for Macintosh

MacCon-iSeries Delivers Optimal Network Performance, Reduced Cost with New
Custom ASIC Design

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Asante Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:ASNT) announced a new
series of lower priced, high-performance Ethernet adapter cards for its
award-winning MacCon family of Macintosh LAN adapters.

Based on the MacCon family's proven CHAMP (concurrent high-speed access
with multiple packet) technology, the advanced, MacCon-i design is
integrated onto a custom-designed application-specific integrated circuit
(ASIC) developed by Asante.

"To reinforce our leadership role in the Ethernet connectivity market, we
are continually expanding all of our product lines with the latest, most
innovative solutions," said Bruce Stancombe, director of product marketing
for Asante's client access products. "The MacCon-i series demonstrates our
ability to incorporate advanced technology into our current product
families in line with new, lower pricing."

CHAMP technology utilizes a 32-bit data path and a pipelining technique to
maximize CPU efficiency and network performance. The 32-bit data path
allows data to be transmitted between the Macintosh and the network with
higher bandwidth, while pipelining allows data packets to be
simultaneously processed by the adapter.

"Asante's MacCon LAN adapters dominate the Macintosh Ethernet adapter
market," said Ed Roberts, director of network products at National
Semiconductor Corporation. "With its new custom ASIC design as well as
National's industry standard ST-NIC chip, MacCon-i cards deliver the
performance, reliability and value users have come to expect from
Asante."

Asante EtherTalk Installer and Media Autosensing Technology provide simple,
straightforward installation. By automatically identifying the appropriate
driver, the EtherTalk Installer condenses the entire installation process
to a single click of the mouse. Autosensing automatically selects the
correct cable, eliminating the need to manually set jumpers.

When used with the Asante SNMP MacAgent (included with the adapter at no
charge) or Apple SNMP agent, the MacCon-i card offers extensive SNMP-based
management capabilities. In conjunction with AsanteView in-band software
or any third party generic SNMP management console, users have access to
detailed information about every Mac on the network that also has an SNMP
agent installed. The adapters also include diagnostic LEDs and free
diagnostic software for fast and simple detection or correction of
problems.

The MacCon-i series supports all Macintosh systems with NuBus slots
including the Power Macintosh family, Quadra family, Macintosh II family,
Centris 650, Performa 600 computers and Duo Docking stations. Macintosh
systems with LC PDS slots, including Macintosh LC III, LC II, LC, Color
Classic, Performa 400 and Quadra 605 computers are also supported.

MacCon-i Ethernet cards support a complete range of popular network
operating systems and protocols including System 7, AppleShare, Novell
NetWare for Macintosh, DEC Pathworks, AppleTalk, TCP/IP, DECnet and A/UX.

The adapters are also fully compliant with IEEE 802.3 Ethernet
specifications for thick (10Base5), thin (10Base2) and unshielded twisted
pair (10BaseT) media.

All MacCon-i adapters are backed by a lifetime warranty and free technical
support. MacCon-i single quantity suggested U.S. list pricing is as
follows:

  MacCon-i NB-10T (NuBus thick/10BaseT): $149
  MacCon-i NB-TN (NuBus thick/thin): $159
  MacCon-i LC-10BT (LC 10BaseT): $125
  MacCon-i LC-TN (LC thin): $149
  MacCon-i LC-TN/10T (LC thin/10BaseT): $219
