Apple Japan Provides Solutions for Children and Adults with Disabilities
Through a New Apple Disability Center

September 9, 1994 -CUPERTINO- Apple Japan, Inc. recently announced
establishment of the Apple Disability Center, a computer learning center
where users with disabilities can obtain information, receive training and
purchase Macintosh personal computers.

The center, established in Tokyo, is the first of its kind for Apple
outside the United States and will offer sales, service and support for
Apple products as well as software and peripheral products. It will also
provide computer training courses for individuals with disabilities and
rehabilitation professionals. The new center will be co-managed with
Access International Corp., an importer, distributor and localizer of
foreign software, as well as a provider of wheelchairs and rehabilitation
equipment. Sales and service for equipment will be handled by Ryomo
Systems, Co., an authorized Apple dealer.

"Apple's goal with the disability center is to change the experience of
being disabled by giving users a means of expressing themselves," said
Alan Brightman, Apple's Manager of Worldwide Disability Solutions.
"Children and adults with disabilities can now demonstrate skills or
complete tasks in a way that may not have been previously possible," he
added.

In order to meet input needs of disabled users, Apple specifically designed
its Macintosh computers with software utilities for universal access.
Examples of these features are Easy Access, a software utility that
enables headstick or mouthstick users to alter such functions as option
key controls or mouse clicking for easier input .and Close View, which
magnifies the contents of the screen up to 16 times for the visually
impaired.

In conjunction with the opening of the new center, Apple Japan launched the
Apple Disability Program on September 1, offering specially priced
Macintosh personal computers and peripherals. To further strengthen
activities for individuals with disabilities, the new Apple Disability
Center will also participate in the Homecare and Rehabilitation Show in
Tokyo this October.
