STEREOGRAPHICS INTRODUCES FIRST EXTERNAL 3D VIEW SCREEN FOR STEREO READY
MONITORS

New CrystalEyes Monitor ZScreen Attaches to Monitor Display; Multiple
viewers Wear Inexpensive Eyewear to See Full color, 3D stereo Images

San Rafael, CA -- August 1, 1994 -- StereoGraphics Corp. the world's
largest supplier of three-dimensional electronic stereo display equipment
and the leading 3D enabler to a diverse and broad imaging universe, today
announced a breakthrough in 3D viewing on PCs and workstations.

The CrystalEyes Monitor ZScreen is the first stereoscopic liquid-crystal
view screen which can be attached to any stereo-ready 17-inch monitor. The
Monitor ZScreen enables both small, assembled groups and walk-by audiences
wearing StereoGraphics' inexpensive passive polarizing eyewear to see
full-color stereo images.

'While large audiences wearing inexpensive polarizing glasses have been
able to view 3D stereo images on projection screens for some time, the
only way to view these same 3D images on PC monitors was to wear
CrystalEyes active shuttering eyewear,' said Wil Cochran, StereoGraphics
vice president of sales and marketing. 'With the introduction of the
Monitor ZScreen, mainstream computers can display affordable dramatic,
full color, three-dimensional stereo images on stereo-ready monitors.'

The lightweight, one-piece Monitor ZScreen attaches easily to the front of
any 17-inch video monitor or display. The unit covers the entire monitor
screen and bezel with a high transparency polarizer held in a rigid frame.
Electronics embedded in the frame switch the optical polarization of each
successive video field image on the monitor.

The stereo images can be computer-generated with stereo graphics software,
or can be from a stereo video camera. These usages are then multiplexed
into the sequential video fields of a stereo monitor using a full range of
StereoGraphics graphics or video equipment. (Before StereoGraphics
CrystalEyes true 3D, computer images were shaded to give the illusion of
stereo and did not provide the necessary negative and positive parallax
capabilities necessary for binocular perception.)

The CrystalEyes(g Monitor ZScreen is available immediately at a U.S.
suggested list price of $1500. The system comes with three pairs of deluxe
polarized eyewear. Additional eyewear are available at $30 each.
StereoGraphics markets its products domestically through OEMs and
resellers, and internationally through distributors in Europe and the Far
East, including Japan, Hong Kong and Korea, as well as the rest of the
world.

For presentations to larger audiences using projectors, StereoGraphics
offers a second ZScreen product called Projector ZScreen, where the
CrystalEyes electronics are integrated into a shuttering lens attached to
a large-screen data projector manufactured by Electrohome. The ZScreen
configuration enables large groups of 100 or more to simultaneously view
3D objects while wearing the passive CrystalEyes eyewear. The large screen
and wide viewing angle permits several observers to simultaneously view
the display and share a stereo presentation.

Three-dimensional stereo presentations are revolutionizing education and
business. For example, Cornell University recently opened its first 3D
stereoscopic classroom to help molecular biology and chemistry students
understand complex molecules. Other applications include using 3D
projections of the human body to train doctors in surgery, creating
crowd-stopping trade show and sales presentations, teleconferencing at
corporate presentations, as well as battlefield simulations, including
those in rugged operating environments, conducted by the U.S. government.
Also, a whole new segment of the entertainment industry now offers group
virtual reality experiences.

StereoGraphics' patented CrystalEyes depth perception products utilize true
3D stereo to improve and dramatize viewing for a broad and diverse user
universe. As comfortable and convenient as a pair of glasses, CrystalEyes
products provide stereo viewing for scientific visualization, animation,
medical imaging, surgical endoscopy, molecular modeling, computer games,
photogrammetry, location-based entertainment, motion simulation,
inspection systems, remote vehicle control, flight simulation, corporate
presentations and all types of education and training.

CrystalEyes products are available with or for most major stereo-ready
workstations, personal computers, monitors and software programs.
Platforms include such major workstation OEMs as Silicon Graphics, Inc.,
Sun Microsystems, Digital Equipment Corp., Evans & Sutherland,
HewlettPackard, IBM and Kubota Graphics Corp. Personal computers include
IBM PC and compatibles, Macintosh, Power Mac and Power PC, and Amiga.
Stereo-ready monitors include NEC, Hitachi, Sony, Philips, Mitsubishi,
Radius and Rasterops.

StereoGraphics Corp., founded in 1980, invented and developed the market
for modern stereo imaging hardware. Due to its capability, reasonable
price and state-of-the-art technology backed by 14 patents, CrystalEyes
systems are accepted as the industry standard for stereo viewing.
