A Washington Post reader asks:
"How can I get these anti-Windows programs to run?"

The answer the Post columnist gave him was: Buttons for DOS.

August 15, 1994 -- The problem exists for virtually every PC user. To run
many utilities, or to run most of the hottest new games or simulations,
you have to exit Windows and slug it out with DOS.

The all-new Version 4.0 of Buttons for DOS pops up whenever a user exits
Windows, giving them "point-and-click" mouse access to all their DOS
programs. Buttons will scan a user's hard drive looking for many popular
DOS programs, and automatically assign them to the menu.

If alternate start-up files are required, Buttons will automatically swap
them in, reboot, and call the program. On exit, the original start-up
files are swapped back and the system automatically rebooted.

Buttons for DOS reduces itself to only 80 bytes in memory when a program is
launched, leaving almost all system resources for DOS games or utilities.
Buttons will not interfere with utilities like MemMaker, Doublespace,
Norton Disk Doctor, or Defragmenter. We know of no DOS application that
will not run in Buttons for DOS.

Triad Software is in negotiations with several top PC manufacturers to
pre-install Buttons. Several DOS game publishers are also looking to
bundle Buttons with their games.

Even the new Windows 4.0 will not be compatible with all software. There
will still be games and utilities (including many of Microsoft's own
utilities) which won't run in a multi-tasking environment like Windows or
OS/2. Buttons for DOS makes them all easier to use.

Buttons for DOS is available on either 5.25" or 3.5" (DS/DD) for $29.
