ALADDIN SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES SITCOMM

Macworld Expo, Boston (August 3, 1993) -- Aladdin Systems today announced
SITcomm -- Simply Intuitive Telecommunications -- a communications program
which allows Macintosh users to easily connect to commercial online
services, bulletin board services (BBS) and the Internet. SITcomm, an
abbreviation of Simply Intuitive Telecommunications, is an easy-to-use
solution which offers unique features such as automated logons,
auto-expansion of compressed files, automatic compression, foreign-file
translation, and scripting with AppleScript or UserLand Frontier. SITcomm
is being previewed at Macworld Expo and will be available early fourth
quarter, 1993.

SITcomm's user interface features a Toolbar which gives users quick access
to the main features of the program. SITcomm simplifies one of the most
complicated tasks in communications -- getting online. SITcomm can be set
up to perform the entire logon procedure automatically without requiring
any scripting. SITcomm automates logons through an address book that
contains the user's settings for each service used. Each address book
entry includes the service type, the service phone number, user ID,
password and other necessary logon information. Logon procedures are
included for commercial services (such as CompuServe, GEnie, MCI Mail, and
Dow Jones), Internet feeds (like the Well and Netcom), and Macintosh or
PC-based BBS systems. Once the essential information is in the address
book, logons are as simple as point and click.

"Most users are finding that communicating via their Macintosh opens up
vast worlds to them. The problem is once they want to move beyond
user-friendly services such as America Online, they are forced to deal
with the archaic services that have been with us since the 1960's. SITcomm
is designed to remove these obstacles, providing all users with an easy,
yet full-featured vehicle to access these services," said David Schargel,
president of Aladdin Systems.

SITcomm can automatically stuff files and folders before sending them to
save connection time and will also automatically expand any StuffIt
(.sit), Compact Pro (.cpt), or BinHex (.hqx) files that are received. The
program will also translate many different file types including PC-based
ZIP and ARC, and Unix-based tar, compress and uucode. By supporting all of
these major compression formats, SITcomm becomes the first communications
product on any platform to provide users with access to millions of files
available online without any extra software. Once files are downloaded
users can also use built-in viewers included in SITcomm to view text and
PICT files without having to run any other application.

Although SITcomm provides an easy-to-use software solution for all users,
advanced telecommunications users will find SITcomm meets all their needs
too. Users who require scripting will find that they can automate all of
their communication and compression tasks using a scripting system such as
AppleScript or UserLand Frontier. With AppleScript, users can easily build
scripts by employing AppleScript's "Record" feature to record all actions
within SITcomm. SITcomm can also be set-up to use Apple Events to
automatically check downloaded files for viruses.

Based on the Macintosh Communications Toolbox, SITcomm handles most major
serial and modem connections with TTY, VT52, and VT102 terminal
emulations. XMODEM, YMODEM, YMODEM-G, ZMODEM and Kermit transfer protocols
are also supported. As the user's telecommunication needs grow, SITcomm
can grow with them by simply adding new Communications Toolbox tools to
support special modems, methods, connections, and file transfers. For
example, users simply drop a file into their System Folder to support
their ISDN card or their TCP/IP connections.

SITcomm will run on any Macintosh series computer with 2Mb of RAM and
System 7 or later. The list price of SITcomm is $120.

Founded in 1988, Aladdin Systems, Inc., is credited with creating the
compression standard for applications and communications for the Macintosh
platform. The company's product line includes StuffIt Deluxe and StuffIt
SpaceSaver, products which offer comprehensive solutions for compression,
translation and archiving. Aladdin recently brought its technology to the
DOS market with the introduction of UnStuff/PC.

Aladdin is one of the few remaining pioneers committed to the shareware and
freeware philosophy of software distribution and marketing. Their
commitment has helped garner them over 600,000 users worldwide. In
addition, over 700 software developers such as Microsoft, Claris and Apple
have licensed their space saving and installer technology.
