O'REILLY TO BUNDLE ENHANCED NCSA MOSAIC FROM SPYGLASS WITH MOSAIC HANDBOOKS
FOR WINDOWS, MACINTOSH, AND X

SEBASTOPOL, CA--O'Reilly & Associates announced that on October 4 it will
release three ground-breaking new book/software packages for Internet
beginners explaining how to use the Mosaic interface not only to navigate
the Net but also to tap the rich information resources of the World Wide
Web. The Mosaic Handbook for Microsoft Windows ($29.95, ISBN
1-56592-094-5) will be bundled with Spyglass Mosaic for Windows V1.0 on
floppy disk. The Mosaic Handbook for the X Window System ($29.95, ISBN:
1-56292-095-3) will be bundled with NCSA Mosaic from Spyglass for X V2.4
CD-ROM. And The Mosaic Handbook for Macintosh ($29.95, ISBN 1-56592-096-l)
will be bundled with Enhanced NCSA Mosaic from Spyglass for the Macintosh
V 1.0 on floppy disk.

"We've chosen Enhanced Spyglass Mosaic by Spyglass, Inc., because of their
close relationship to NCSA, the original developer of Mosaic. The Spyglass
version of Mosaic is a commercial version that fixes problems found in the
public domain versions of Mosaic distributed on the Internet," said Dale
Dougherty, co-author and editor of the Mosaic handbooks and publisher of
The Global Network Navigator. "Spyglass Mosaic will become the mainstream
Mosaic used by most people--and Mosaic, more than any other information
browser. is changing the face of the Internet. Because it is so simple to
use, it makes the Net accessible to a wide range of people, from
elementary school children to CEOs."

These book/software packages introduce using Mosaic to navigate and find
information on the World Wide Web (WWW). They show how to use Mosaic to
replace some of the traditional Internet functions like ftp (file transfer
protocol) and gopher. For more advanced users, the books describe how to
add external viewers to Mosaic (allowing it to display many additional
file types), and how to customize the Mosaic interface, such as screen
elements, colors, and fonts. It also covers HTML (Hypertext Markup
Language), the format for documents distributed on the World Wide Web, and
how to create a home page complete with links to other servers.

ADDED BENEFIT: THE GLOBAL NETWORK NAVIGATOR

The Mosaic Handbooks will feature the Global Network Navigator (GNN), the
premier World Wide Web information service developed by O'Reilly &
Associates. GNN contains navigational guides that help Mosaic users
discover Internet resources. It also provides news and information
services in such areas as travel, personal finance, education, and
sports.

Said Dougherty, "GNN is a pioneering effort in online publishing and
Enhanced Mosaic from Spyglass provides a solid, multiplatform browser for
users. The Mosaic Handbooks reflect our own experience as users and as
publishers. We show what Mosaic and the World Wide Web have to offer now
and what they may offer in the future. These books invite Mosaic users to
participate in a worldwide movement that's changing the face of the
Information Age."
