Apple Announces Most Affordable New PowerBook

CUPERTINO, California--July 18, 1994--Apple Computer, Inc. today announced
the PowerBook 150, the most affordable member of its award-winning
PowerBook line of notebook computers. Priced at $1,449, (U.S. Apple
Price) the PowerBook 150 is designed for higher education students, home
and small office users, and desktop users with casual second system needs
as well as for customers who are entering the mobile computing world for
the first time.

Engineered for affordability and weighing in at only 5.5 pounds, the new
PowerBook 150 replaces the PowerBook 145B, boasting enhancements that
include a software bundle incorporating ClarisWorks and the PowerBook
Mobility Bundle, a larger display, larger hard drive, and increased RAM
expansion.

"The PowerBook 150 rounds out our PowerBook family of products. We now
offer customers a complete range of products with our high- performance
500 series PowerBooks, our smallest and lightest 200 series subnotebooks
and now with the 100 series, our most affordable PowerBooks," said Brodie
Keast, Apple's vice president for PowerBook products. "With the PowerBook
150 we've included the features that customers say they value most while
still managing to shave off a pound of weight."

Offering plug and play expandability, the PowerBook 150's built-in SCSI
port allows users to connect to hard disk drives, printers, scanners, and
CD-ROM drives. Built-in networking allows for fast and easy connection to
printers, file sharing or access to servers. An optional fax/modem allows
users to send/receive faxes and connect to a variety of information
services, including Apple's new eWorld . With memory upgradable from 4MB
to 40MB, users have ample space to grow. The PowerBook 150 form factor
includes Apple's award-winning integrated trackball, palmrests, and
full-size keyboard.

With the PowerBook Mobility Bundle and ClarisWorks preinstalled, users can
put their new PowerBook to work immediately. Software includes the
PowerBook Control Strip, Macintosh PC Exchange , MacLink Plus/Easy Open
Translators, Macintosh Easy Open, PowerBook File Assistant, HyperCard
Player, PowerBook 150 Backup Utility and Calendar desk accessory.
ClarisWorks includes word processor, spreadsheet, database, drawing,
painting and communications modules. Because Clarisworks runs entirely out
of RAM, it rarely accesses the hard drive, thus conserving battery life.

Accessories used in current 100 series PowerBooks including AC adapters,
batteries, battery rechargers, and modems are all compatible with the
PowerBook 150. Modems designed for use in the PowerBook 145B as well as
Memory Expansion cards designed for the PowerBook 200 series are also
compatible with the PowerBook 150.
