MOLECULAR ARTS CORPORATION RELEASES 3D MOLECULAR MODEL BUILDING SOFTWARE
FOR WINDOWS

Anaheim, California, August 15, 1994 -- Molecular Arts Corporation (MAC),
announced today the commercial availability of a new version of its
popular Windows-based software, Molecules-3D for Windows, a 3D Molecular
Model Builder. This new release (Version 2.0) of Molecules-3D is designed
for both students in academia and technical experts in the chemical
industries. Molecules-3D enables you to build, examine, modify, and
transfer 3D models and sophisticated 3D graphic images to (and from) other
applications.

Vice-President of Marketing for Molecular Arts Corporation, Laura Voyles
says of the new release, "Molecules-3D is an easy-to-use tool that
provides scientists tremendous capabilities for visualizing their
molecules. Chemists struggle daily with representing their research (on 3D
molecules) in 2D formats." She went on to say, "What makes Molecules-3D so
exciting is that it combines the simplicity of a plastic model building
kit with the power of computer modeling in a very affordable package. With
Molecules-3D, scientists can visualize and document their work and present
it to their peers quickly and easily."

Graphical User Interface

By utilizing the popular Microsoft Windows graphical user interface,
Molecules-3D takes full advantage of this intuitive working environment,
making Molecules-3D easy to learn and use. Build molecules with only a
"paint-n-click" of the mouse. Optimize new structures with only a single
mouse click. Switch between Ball-n-Stick, Spacefill, and Wireframe models
with only a single mouse click. Simplicity and ease-of-use were key design
criteria.

TOOL ENHANCEMENTS

Version 2.0 of Molecule-3D marks the addition of 30 new or upgraded
capabilities including:

. Lewis Formula Tool - 3D conversion of completed 2D Lewis
  structures
. Structure Library - Expanded structure listings including
hydrocarbons, biomolecules, organics, acids and bases, as well
  as crystals
. 3D Builder - Expanded Periodic Table support. Fragment Builder
  with Preview added
. Cleanup - Complete energy minimizer for structure optimization
. 3D Visual Editor - Interactive adjustment of selected
  geometries
. User Interface - Toolbars for one-button access to key commands

Seamlessly integrated together in Molecules-3D, these tools provide
chemists an unparalleled set of capabilities for creating high-quality
models and presentation graphics.

PRODUCT FEATURES

This latest version of Molecules-3D offers many new features including: an
expandable Structure Library of 100+ 3D molecular structures of common,
scientific, and topical interest; Coach Lewis to guide you through a
process for building accurate 2D Lewis diagrams; illustrated
documentation; customizable molecular parameter settings; streamlined
access to critical features; 1-button Wire-frame, Ball-and-Stick, and
Spacefill rendering; plus expanded menu access to Molecules-3D's many
features.

Construct virtually any molecule in the 3D Builder. Similar in approach to
plastic model kits, just point-n-click to add any atom or fragment to an
open valence. In fact Molecules-3D is faster than a plastic kit - it
requires fewer steps! For example, proper bond lengths are set
automatically. And Molecules-3D is more flexible, handling everything from
small organics to large polymers and inorganics with full Periodic Table
access! Plus custom fragments and less-common valence geometries are
easily constructed and added to the Fragment Library.

Molecule-3D is also designed for quick cleanup. The Molecular Syntax
Checker identifies potential structural problems. The Visual 3D Editor
enables rapid evaluation and interactive adjustment of molecular
geometries. And 3D Cleanup provides a fast evaluation of molecular
geometries and forces, automatically adjusting atom positions to provide
more accurate conformations.

Users may also read in 3D structure models from third-party databases or
modeling programs. The program includes multiple rendering styles (wire
frame, ball-n-stick, and space fill) with support for depth cueing,
perspective, shading, and lighting controls. Create beautiful 3D
illustrations of your work using standard Cut-and-Paste commands.

Users also have access to quality hardcopy output provided via support for
Hewlett Packard LaserJet printers, color printers, PostScript devices, HP
plotters - virtually all Windows-compatible output devices. Chemists can
create everything from slides and transparencies to oversized posters, lab
notebook annotations, and paper-based documentation.

AVAILABILITY

The commercial release of Molecules-3D (v2.0) is concurrent with this
announcement. A single-user license is available for an introductory price
of only $29. This release will operate on IBM PC's and PC-compatibles that
support Microsoft Windows 3.1. Included is a 30-day money-back guarantee
and FREE technical support for the first 30 days of ownership. Extended
Support Plans are available.
