Kofax Licenses UNIX and Non-Intel Toolkits to Peabody Systems For Support,
Continued Product Development

IRVINE, Calif., August 25, 1994 -- Kofax Image Products today announced
that it has licensed the rights to its KIPP (Kofax Image Processing
Platform) developers toolkit products for imaging applications operating
on UNIX and RISC-based Microsoft Windows NT platforms to Peabody Systems,
an international reseller specializing in document image processing on
high-end platforms. Peabody Systems will develop, market and support UNIX
and some Windows NT versions of the KIPP Developers Toolkit and KIPP
Advanced Developers Toolkit.

Kofax will continue to market, support and develop its KIPP family of
toolkits for DOS, OS/2, Windows and Windows NT platforms operating on
Intel processors through its extensive worldwide network of distributors
and resellers. This family includes the KIPP Developers Toolkit v2.1, the
KIPP Advanced Developers Toolkit v1.6 and KIPP ImageControls v1.0, a suite
of custom controls compatible with Visual Basic and Visual C++, according
to Kevin Drum, Kofax director of marketing.

Peabody Systems was selected to provide support for existing Kofax UNIX
customers and to continue development of the product line in partnership
with Kofax because of its close relationship with the company. Peabody
Systems was founded by Wes Chalfant, a former Kofax software development
manager who was chiefly responsible for developing the UNIX version of the
KIPP toolkits, according to Drum.

"Wes has more than 14 years of experience and is extremely knowledgeable in
both UNIX and Windows NT platforms," said Drum. "As a former Kofax
employee, we are well-aware of his commitment to UNIX and are confident
that his organization will continue to provide excellent support to the
existing UNIX and RISC-based developers using Kofax products. Wes is
uniquely qualified to extend the product line to meet future needs."

According to Chalfant, Peabody Systems president, the company currently
supports both the KIPP Developers Toolkit and the KIPP Advanced Developers
Toolkit on a number of UNIX and non-Intel Windows NT platforms. Supported
platforms include UNIX System V/386 from SCO (UNIX, Open Desktop), Novell
(UnixWare) and others; IBM RS/6000 AIX; Hewlett-Packard 9000 HP-UX; and
Windows NT/MIPS. Additional platforms will be available over the next
year.

Kofax Image Products was established in 1985 to develop products supporting
document image processing on the networked PC platform. Today the company
is the world leader in image processing software and hardware that
supports document scanning, compression, manipulation and printing. Kofax
sells its KIPP (Kofax Image Processing Platform) image processing boards
and software toolkits worldwide to resellers, integrators and OEMs who
develop complete document image processing solutions for end-users. In
April of 1994, Kofax introduced the new Ascent family of component
software applications that brings production-level document imaging
capabilities to the client-server environment.
