GREYSTONE INTRODUCES GIGABLASTER SOFTWARE DUPLICATION SYSTEM FOR HIGH
CAPACITY DRIVES

New Automated System's High Throughput For SCSI Hard Disk and Tape Drives
Pays For Itself Almost Immediately

Los Gatos, CA -- August 8, 1994 -- Greystone Peripherals, Inc., the leader
in affordable high-performance software duplication systems and PCMCIA
accessories, announced five models of its new GigaBlaster family of very
high-speed software and data loaders for high-capacity gigabyte (GB) class
hard disk and tape SCSI (small computer system interface) drives. The
units can also function as low-cost random access mirroring backup
systems.

GigaBlaster systems reduce the formatting and loading time through
automation. The unit's ease and simplicity of operation allows it to be
operated by unskilled personnel, which means lower labor costs.

The flagship products are the SB-600 (ISA) and SB-650 (EISA) GigaBlasters,
a total solution targeted to SCSI-interface drive loading. Each system
contains connections for seven individual SCSI ports, each of which
support one drive. The master port allows the copying of one drive to the
others during standalone, simultaneous operation. During the copy process,
hardware bit-for-bit data is verified. The unit transfers data at speeds
of up to 3.0 megabytes (MB) per second. Three other lower-cost systems in
different configurations complete the family.

'Our data show that a GigaBlaster unit can pay for itself by loading fewer
than ten drives,' said John Usher, vice president of sales and marketing
for Greystone. 'Software is conventionally loaded onto high-capacity
drives from CD-ROMs. To load seven gigabytes of data onto one drive takes
the manual loading of approximately 80 CD-ROM disks, a task which
typically takes over nine hours. To load the same amount of data from a
GigaBlaster to a hard drive takes only 1.5 hours, and slightly more when
loading multiple drives. This is perhaps the most rapid ROI on the
software duplication market today.'

The GigaBlaster system's cost benefits result from the high throughput, and
because trained personnel are not required to load data or operate the
automatic system. Also, there is little or no system or personnel downtime
required for the target network, system or drive(s).

A range of system models is offered to different user tiers, from the entry
level system offered for mobile service engineers and technicians, to
fully-automated, high-speed, high-throughput systems.

Target users, in addition to the typical customer set of VARs, VADs, OEMs
and software manufacturers, include MIS departments, large service
organizations (who must update and reconstruct software resident on
drives), educational institutions, hospitals, and field service
organizations. The last-named perform software installations and upgrades
to stand-alone and networked systems. The lightweight, easy-to-use
GigaBlaster makes it easy to upgrade drives in the field, negating the use
of expensive replacement drives, or having to shut down systems or servers
for installation or upgrades.

GIGABLASTER FAMILY AVAILABILITY AND PRICE

The Greystone GigaBlaster family of software duplicators for SCSI hard
disks is available now for ISA and EISA users. Systems are shipped with
necessary cabling, connectors and operating instructions. The SB-600/650
top of the line GigaBlaster units measures 16.5 inches deep by 16 inches
wide by 2.75 inches high, and weighs 10 pounds.

Greystone Peripherals, Inc., founded in 1992, is led by PC and peripheral
industry veterans George Robinson and John Usher. The company designs,
manufactures and markets computer peripherals. In addition to the
DataBlaster family of software duplication products, its CardDock family
of readers/writers is targeted to the PCMCIA market.
