RACAL-DATACOM TEAMS WITH WELLFLEET TO OFFER NEW SOLUTION FOR REMOTE ACCESS
INTO THE CORPORATE NETWORK

-- EAN 2000 is industry's first remote access solution enabling
manageable migration of mainframe applications to client/server computing
--

SUNRISE, FLA. (Aug. 22, 1994) -- Racal-Datacom today introduced the
industry's first remote-office access device enabling cost-effective,
manageable migration of mainframe business applications into a
client/server computing environment.

The Excalibur Access Node (EAN) 2000 is the first product integrating
"best-of-class" technology to provide managed, end-to-end connectivity
between host and LAN computing environments. The EAN 2000 combines Racal's
industry leading Excalibur wide area network digital access product with
the leading-edge local area network technology of Wellfleet
Communications' Access Node multiprotocol router. The result is a
dual-purpose LAN/WAN remote access product in a single housing.

Glen Smith, Racal-Datacom senior vice president of the Products Division,
said the EAN 2000 is the first step in the company's long-term strategy to
introduce the industry to an entirely new category of networking solutions
known as "Managed Migration." The company foresees strong demand for these
managed migration solutions from retail banking, financial services,
insurance and retail industries, and government agencies.

Racal-Datacom President James K. Norman said the EAN 2000 was designed in
response to corporate IS requirements to reduce costs while achieving
LAN-WAN integration and adding new LAN-based business applications.

"By adding leading edge multiprotocol routing capabilities from Wellfleet,
we will provide our customers with a cost-effective, manageable migration
path to evolve their networks into the client/server computing environment
while maintaining existing business applications with minimal business
interruption - hence the term Managed Migration," Norman said.

Racal-Datacom and Wellfleet Synergy Benefits End-Users

The introduction of the EAN 2000 has been met with favorable response by
leading industry analysts. Bill Redman, Gartner Group's vice president and
research center director for networking technologies, said Racal-Datacom's
integration of its traditional strength in wide area networking with
Wellfleet's instantly recognizable routing technology is the right
strategy at the right time.

More than 80,000 Racal Excalibur digital access products are installed in
more than 1,800 business and government organizations. The EAN 2000 offers
the same highly demanded features as the Excalibur DSU/CSU wide area
networking products. These capabilities are combined with the strengths of
Wellfleet's Access Node, a highly integrated, fixed configuration
multiprotocol router/bridge. The Access Node cost-effectively connects
small remote offices to an enterprise internetwork and ensures network
availability while minimizing operating costs.

"By integrating local area networking and wide area networking for both
legacy applications and distributed applications, the EAN 2000 combines
the strengths of RacalDatacom and Wellfleet in their respective areas of
expertise," Redman said.

EAN 2000 Benefits Include Cost Savings and Network Management

The EAN 2000 is designed to provide users with network savings in wide area
communications costs, networking product costs and network personnel
costs. WAN communications cost savings can result from the consolidation
of costly parallel networks and the more efficient and effective use of
the connected networks.

The EAN 2000 enables both LAN-based applications and traditional business
applications to be transported on DDS or Frame Relay public carrier
services, reducing monthly circuit charges by as much as 50 percent.

Equipment and maintenance costs are decreased by network integration. For
example, by combining digital access products and router functionality in
a single, highly-integrated, dual purpose component, the EAN 2000 reduces
the number of pieces of equipment needed at the remote site, as well as
the associated power supplies and cablint. With fewer equipment
requirements, users also benefit from simplified configuration and lower
maintenance costs.

Because the EAN 2000 can be managed by a single network management system
and is self-configuring, the costs associated with staff training and
development are also reduced. The EAN 2000 can be fully managed via the
Racal Management System or, in the near future (early 1995), via any
SNMP-based platform.

Service and Support Organization Adds Value

The EAN 2000 is further differentiated from competing remote-office access
products by Racal-Datacom's dedicated national service and support
organization. Most companies migrating to client/server computing at
remote sites have limited in-house network support resources and, thus,
must focus their efforts on remote sites in major metropolitan areas.
Racal-Datacom's national support team - comprised of nearly 500
professionals - provides complete network services in those major markets,
as well as in mid-size cities and small towns - in a range of
response-time options. Those services include design implementation,
installation, applications support, network monitoring, control,
diagnostics, spares, and maintenance. Racal's expertise in these areas
further enhances effective and painless migration to mixed LAN and legacy
environments.

EAN 2000 Feature Summary and Pricing

The EAN 2000 is price-positioned for the mid-range remote-access market,
with unit pricing beginning at $3,995. The product is distributed by
Racal-Datacom's direct sales force, as well as by value added resellers,
and is now available for shipment. The EAN 2000 feature set is highlighted
as follows:
