Discis to publish Award Winning Children's Poetry Collection

"Somebody Catch My Homework" takes a humorous look at a day at school

Toronto, Ontario (August 15, 1994) Discis Knowledge Research today
announced the addition of Children's Choice Award winner, Somebody Catch
My Homework, to its growing list of interactive CD-ROM titles. Available
for volume shipment by September 1994, the book is a light-hearted
collection of children's verse that captures the experience of life at
school -- including the agony of tests, inventive excuses for lost
homework, cafeteria food and young love. The multimedia CD-ROM book works
with the IBM PC and compatibles (MPC Level 1) and Macintosh computers from
a single disc, and are affordably priced with a MSRP of $29.95.

Written by David L. Harrison and imaginatively illustrated by Betsy Lewin,
Somebody Catch My Homework builds on the great success of another poetry
collection, Scary Poems for Rotten Kids, which has been among Discis'
best-selling titles.

Author Harrison has published more than 40 books for adults and children
but Somebody Catch My Homework is his first collection of poems. It was
first published in hardcover in 1993, and has received rave reviews for
its funny yet sensitive treatment of "classic school woes." From the
outset: "Ten whole minutes,/ Till the bus,/ Scads of Time,/ What's the
fuss?" Harrison takes his readers on an amusing journey through a day at
school. In all there are 18 poems, each supported by cheery ink and
watercolor illustrations.

Explaining the selection of Somebody Catch My Homework, John Lowry, Discis
CEO and co-founder said, "we are always looking for books that will
interest young readers, and Harrison captures the essence of life at
school in a way kids will relate to and enjoy." Somebody Catch My Homework
shares the many features of Discis' award-winning product design,
including presentation of the original text with colorful illustrations,
dramatic narration, music and sound effects. Combining the power of an
entertaining story teller with a patient tutor, the book also allows
children to build their reading skills by "clicking" with the computer
mouse to obtain pronunciation, in-context explanations, syllables, parts
of speech and optional Spanish translations for every word of the text.
Similar information is available by clicking on objects within
illustrations. Words selected by the user can then be saved in a recall
list which can be viewed on screen or printed for later review. Many
features, including the reading speed, can be customized to suit the needs
of individual readers.

Somebody Catch My Homework is also available in a special Classroom
Edition, which includes extensive teacher resource materials (an
integrated Activity Guide, Curriculum Story Web, and a series of
reproducible Black-Line Masters for class activities, student evaluation
and recognition).

Enhanced Features

Somebody Catch My Homework is up to three times longer than many other
Discis titles and more generously illustrated, with a new picture
appearing on the computer screen with each new page of text.' An interview
with author David Harrison -- conducted by a child "reporter" -- is also
included on the CD-ROM.

A pioneer in the development of interactive multimedia books, Discis has
now published more than 40 titles and sold more than one million copies of
its books on CD-ROM.
