COGNEX MACHINE VISION SOFTWARE PACKAGES NOW AVAILABLE ON THE PC

SEMICON WEST, San Francisco, CA, July 19, 1994--Cognex Corporation, the
world's leading supplier of machine vision systems to the semiconductor
and electronics industries, today introduced a suite of machine vision
software packages designed to run on the Cognex 5000 PC plug-in vision
system. These software packages are dedicated to the specific application
needs of semiconductor equipment OEMs, enabling them to easily integrate
machine vision into their equipment--without having to perform complex
programming.

"The trend in semiconductor equipment manufacturing today is toward tighter
integration, reduced overall costs, and simpler operator interfaces,' said
David Schatz, Vice President of Marketing at Cognex Corp. "Cognex has now
streamlined vision integration by providing our software with an
easy-to-use graphical interface on an affordable board that plugs directly
into the production equipment's host PC."

These application-specific packages offer a simple command interface to
ease the developer's job of integrating machine vision with his equipment.
This approach enables the developer to bring his machine to market faster,
by allowing him to focus on the overall machine design, rather than having
to spend months on tedious pixel-level programming on the machine vision
system. In addition, the system provides a menu interface to simplify the
training and system setup tasks on the factory floor.

Each software package is designed to perform a specific
semiconductor-related vision task, such as inspecting print quality on
packaged IC's, finding alignment targets on various substrates, reading ID
numbers on wafers, and aligning and inspecting individual die. The Print
Quality Inspection package quickly and accurately inspects the quality of
print on packaged devices produced by laser, pad, or offset printing
equipment. Fiducial Finder automatically aligns ceramic substrates or
printed circuit boards by locating fiducial marks on each substrate. The
Cognex 1600 /PC reads the laser etched serial numbers from semiconductor
wafers, overcoming the challenging image conditions that exist in wafer
processing. The Die Pick and Place software enables manufacturers of
semiconductor die bonders to inspect a die prior to picking it up and
placing it onto a leadframe for bonding.

The Cognex 5000 vision system bundled with any one of these software
packages sells for under $10,000 in OEM quantities and is now available
for shipment.
