Ataman Software, L.C. has just released its new full-featured telnetd for
Microsoft Windows NT.

The telnetd will be added to an existing rlogind product. The new product
is called the Ataman(TM) TCP Remote Logon Services. Pricing for the
product remains the same at for the rlogind product. Registered users of
the Ataman Rlogind Service will receive a free upgrade. The new product
also contains an rlogind with several bug fixes and enhancements.

The Ataman TCP Remote Logon Services provides a Microsoft Windows NT
implementation of the TCP/IP-based rlogin and telnet protocols as defined
in the Internet documents: RFC 1282 and RFC 854. These services allow
users to remotely logon to a Windows NT machine and run character-mode
programs on the remote system. It uses the standard Windows NT user
authentication mechanisms so that a separate password database is not
needed. Remote users are provided with separate security contexts. No user
needs to be logged on to the console for the rlogind or telnetd services
to function.

After logging on users can choose on of two modes of execution:

        Simple or Advanced.

The Advanced mode provides support for full-screen character-mode
applications that will work with any rlogin or telnet client that supports
ANSI terminal escape sequences (such as VT100). When running in advanced
mode such features as the DOSKEY command line editing work much like they
do from a command prompt window opened on the main console. Screen
resizing at the client side is passed on to the remote screen buffer.

The Simple mode is for users that do not have an rlogin or telnet client
that supports ANSI terminal escape sequences, or for instances in which
the Advanced mode uses more resources than desired. This mode lets the
remote users execute any character mode program that works correctly when
standard output is redirected to a pipe. It does not provide support for
full-screen applications.

The Ataman(TM) TCP Remote Logon Services is shareware. It is available for
the Intel and Alpha AXP architectures. You can obtain the product file
archive from Ataman Software's anonymous ftp site:

        utahwired.com:/users/ataman/products/
                atrls11i.zip (Intel)
                atrls11a.zip (AXP)

It will also be placed on ftp.cica.indiana.edu and its mirrors. (The files
will start out in /pub/pc/win3/uploads but will eventually moved to
/pub/pc/win3/nt.)

The files can also be obtained from CompuServe in the WUGNET (Win NT
Shareware library) and MSWIN32 (Tools-Third Party library) forums. Search
for the keyword: TELNETD.

Registered users also receive the Ataman Rexecd Service which provides an
Windows NT implementation of the Berkeley "rexec" remote command execution
protocol.
