The Desktop Channel Introduces Electronic Order Entry System at PC EXPO

On-line system will allow trade show attendees to order products
electronically from the show floor

Peabody, MA, May 9, 1994 -- NECX today announced it will make the Desktop
Channel, the company's on-line shopping network for PC products, available
to trade show attendees through a new electronic order entry system. The
new system, designed to support the sale of products being promoted by
trade show exhibitors, will be made available for the first time at PC
EXPO this June. It will allow attendees to order show specials and
thousands of other PC products from order entry systems located in the
booth of the Desktop Channel (#4004) and those of participating
exhibitors.

"Our order entry systems will make it possible for show attendees to buy
the products they want on the spot, without having to lug them around for
the rest of the show," said Henry Bertolon, president of NECX.
"Exhibitors, on the other hand, will be able to close sales leads and
process orders at the show without ever having to handle inventory. "

"It's the most hassle-free and cost-effective way to do business on the
show floor," added Bertolon, "Not only will exhibitors enjoy immediate
sales, but they will see a measurable return on their marketing
investment. This will allow them to make educated decisions on which shows
are best suited for their market. "

The new systems will allow attendees to order show specials offered by
exhibitors at PC EXPO and other trade shows. In addition, show attendees
will be able to order any of the 20,000 brand-name PC products normally
carried by the Desktop Channel.

Order entry systems at PC EXPO will be on line with the Desktop Channel
network for the duration of the show. Exhibitors' staffs, trained by the
Desktop Channel, will be available to help attendees place their orders
quickly and easily. Orders may be paid for by credit card and will be
shipped that day, via UPS ground or overnight express, from one of the
Desktop Channel's many warehouses. As a bonus, all attendees using the
system will be sent a free Desktop Channel starter kit so they may use the
shopping network when they return from the show.

The Desktop Channel is introducing the new system at PC EXPO, but plans to
set up similar programs for COMDEX/Fall and other major computer trade
shows around the country. Trade show exhibitors and attendees interested
in obtaining more information may call the Desktop Channel at
508-538-8100.

The Desktop Channel, launched in January, 1994, is a division of NECX, the
world's largest independent distributor of integrated circuits and
computer products. A privately held company founded in 1980, NECX has 140
employees and generated more than $157 million in revenues in 1993.
