Fauve Software unveils new "xRes" Product

Exclusive ability to handle 100Mb CMYK images in real time.

Comdex 94 - Atlanta, June 23 1994. -- Fauve Software has taken the imaging
world by surprise by introducing a new high-end paint and photo-retouching
program which allows users to manipulate huge CMYK images in real time.
The program is based on a new technology called "xRes" which stores images
in a mathematical form as opposed to traditional arrays of pixels. With
xRes, you can open a 100 Mb image in real time, zoom in and touch up any
area of the image, and even apply "global" operations such as gradient
fills and filters without the memory and processing time overhead of
traditional programs.

"xRes is a totally revolutionary way of looking at images. Things that you
would think of as impossible with other programs -- such as keeping l 0
levels of undo around with a huge image -- become possible in xRes." said
Fred Krueger, president of Fauve Software. Mr. Krueger and his brother
Richard designed the new technology in Raleigh, North Carolina over the
last twelve months.

Finalist, Best of Comdex 94

The product was demonstrated at Spring Comdex in Atlanta, l 994 and was one
of three finalists in the overall "best software" category. The program
was demonstrated on the Windows Platform, and on Windows NT for the DEC
Alpha. A Macintosh version is near completion. PC and Mac Versions will
both ship in August, 1994 and carry a $799 list price.

Photo Retouching Features

"One of the goals in xRes was to build a complete photo-retouch environment
around the new technology without sacrificing CMYK mode, masking ability,
channel control and other features users have come to expect of an image
editor." Fred Krueger said. "In addition we built in the paint tools from
our earlier "Matisse" program to provide the digital artist a complete
high-res production studio."

Differences with FITS

The new xRes technology is radically different from the FITS technology
used in HSC's "Live Picture". Unlike FITS, xRes keeps around the notion of
a "pixel" which allows the implementation of traditional tools such as the
magic wand. Furthermore, xRes manipulates images as multiple "CMYK"
objects which float over a monochromatic background. Each such object can
be manipulated as an individual entity, and can be further broken down
into up to 32 "alpha channels." Full channel operation support as well as
macros are provided.
