NEW TESTPOINT SOFTWARE INTEGRATES IEEE-488 INSTRUMENTS WITH DATA
ACQUISITION HARDWARE

FREE DEMO DISK AVAILABLE

CLEVELAND, OHIO -- February 17, 1994 -- Keithley Instruments, Inc. has
introduced TestPoint, a multi-tasking, object-oriented software package
designed to simplify creating custom test, measurement and data
acquisition applications in the Microsoft Windows environment without the
need for conventional programming techniques. In addition to support for a
wide array of hardware, the package makes it easy to create custom user
interfaces, develop test routines, process and display data, create report
files, and exchange information with other Windows applications such as
popular spreadsheet and wordprocessing packages via Dynamic Data Exchange
(DDE).

TestPoint is a featured product in the new "Keithley Direct" catalog, which
is available along with a free demo disk of the TestPoint program, by
calling 800-552-1115. Specifications on TestPoint are available by calling
SpecDirect, Keithley's 24-hour fax call program, at 800-936-3300, and
requesting document #1650.

TestPoint combines IEEE-488, RS-232, and RS-485 instrument control
capabilities with support for a broad range of data acquisition hardware.
While most application development packages support either test and
measurement instruments or data acquisition boards but not both, TestPoint
allows users to combine instruments and boards in a single application.
The package provides Dynamic Link Libraries (DLLs) that make it easy to
control more than 70 popular test and measurement instruments, including
Keithley's Model 2001 Digital Multimeter and the Model 182 Sensitive
Digital Voltmeter. DLL support is also included for Keithley's KPC-488.2
IEEE cards and data acquisition boards, including the Keithley MetraByte
DAS-1600, DAS-1200, DAS-800, and DAS-TC boards.

TestPoint's application development screen has four parts. The stock window
holds icons for both standard and user-defined objects such as displays,
graphs, switches and interface hardware. The object panel identifies the
major components of the application and often includes GPIB devices, user
input fields, graphs, data files, and math formulas. This is where stock
objects take on custom information for use in the application. The display
panel represents the user interface for the application. The action list
is a sequence of actions to be executed when an object receives an event
or instruction.

Unlike competitive packages, TestPoint makes it easy to create
sophisticated sequences without drawing or "wiring" icons together.
Instead, application builders simply use the computer's mouse to
"drag-and-drop" the icons for the graphs, displays, data entry fields, and
other interactive components (or objects) needed to build the test
sequence.

Although TestPoint eliminates the need for conventional programming when
developing most applications, it also offers wide flexibility, providing
full access to external subroutines written using conventional languages
such as C, Visual C++ and Turbo Pascal for Windows. Any language that can
create a Windows DLL can be used.

The package is designed to run on IBM compatible AT, 386, or 486 computers
utilizing Microsoft Windows 3.1 or later. Applications created using
TestPoint may be distributed freely without paying an additional license
fee.

Keithley Instruments, Inc. has been designing and manufacturing precision
instrumentation since 1946. Today, Keithley is a world leader in providing
hardware and software solutions for electronic test and measurement, data
acquisition, and semiconductor characterization. Keithley products and
systems are found throughout the world in universities, industrial
research laboratories, engineering development departments, quality
control areas, and on production lines. They are second to none in
providing highly accurate and reliable data related to the electrical,
temperature, and periodic phenomena they test and measure.

Price for TestPoint package: $995.00
