SYBASE ANNOUNCES FAST-TRACK PARTNER TRAINING PROGRAM

STEP for Partners Maximizes Third-Party Expertise in Sybase Technology,
Expanding Service Options for End Users

EMERYVILLE, CA, February 15,1994 -- Sybase, Inc., The Enterprise
Client/Server Company, today announced the Sybase Technology Education
Program (STEP) for Partners, an accelerated educational program designed
to provide Sybase Open Solutions partners - including independent software
vendors (ISVs), value-added resellers (VARs), and systems integrators -
with advanced proficiency in SYBASE technology. Open Solutions partners'
ability to quickly gain technical proficiency through STEP is expected to
significantly increase the number of qualified third-party suppliers who
can offer consulting services to SYBASE customers

"Servicing the rapidly emerging base of mainstream client/server
installations requires a transfer of knowledge from the developers of
enabling technologies, such as Sybase, to the VARs, ISVs and systems
integrators who implement business solutions based on these technologies,"
said Steve Sharp, vice president of Sybase's Worldwide Professional
Services. "Through STEP for Partners, Sybase is taking the industry lead
in 'open services.' We are investing in our Open Solutions partners'
SYBASE expertise, so customers can choose among a large pool of qualified
providers for the service options that best meet their needs."

"STEP is an extremely valuable program to our organization," said Doug
Shimada, director of training for SHL Systemhouse. "The program provides a
just-in-time method of developing expertise in SYBASE technology, so
employees can begin working on client projects immediately. It also allows
us to control our expenses for training, both by reducing tuition costs
and minimizing time away from the field. I commend Sybase for partnering
with independent vendors, like ourselves, to ensure technical mastery and
self-reliance so we can provide our end users with the best support
possible."

The STEP for Partners program is available to participants of Sybase's Open
Solutions program who require advanced technical training. It is aimed at
senior designers who are knowledgeable in database technology but new to
SYBASE products. STEP for Partners is taught by highly trained Sybase
consultants who share their technical skills and hands-on experience, and
provide an overview of the Sybase product line, including System 10.
Individuals without prerequisite database skills are advised to attend
Sybase's standard training courses before enrolling in STEP.

The first course available through the STEP program is STEP 1, an
intensive, five-day class that is equivalent to three standard courses
from Sybase: Fast Track to Sybase, SQL Server Administration, and
Performance and Tuning Upon completion of the STEP 1 course, partners
should have the skills required to pass the Database Administrator
Certification test offered by Drake Training and Technologies. Before the
end of 1994, this certification test will be required of all Sybase
partners to ensure consistent quality in services provided to end users.

STEP Program Options and Pricing

Open Solutions program members interested in STEP may attend Sybase's open
enrollment STEP courses or schedule private on-site class sessions. The
program's open enrollment courses currently are scheduled every other week

additional STEP classes that address Open Solutions partners' critical
technical and design issues Information on current and upcoming STEP for
