SYBASE, INTERGRAPH ESTABLISH OPEN SOLUTIONS PARTNERSHIP

World's Largest CAD/CAM Developer Joins Sybase's Third-Party Partner
Program to Provide Client/Server Solutions to Customers

EMERYVILLE, CA, February 7, 1994 -- Sybase, Inc., The Enterprise
Client/Server Company, today announced that Intergraph, the world's
largest developer of computer-aided design and computer-aided
manufacturing (CAD/CAM) applications, has become a Sybase Open Solutions
Value Added Reseller (VAR). As such, Intergraph develops software
applications on top of the SYBASE architecture and resells them to
customers. Sybase, in turn, provides Intergraph with the sales, marketing
and technical support to deliver these applications to customers.
Together, the two companies offer customers best-in-class solutions that
meet the demanding needs of client/server computing.

"Signing Intergraph as an Open Solutions partner is a strategic move for
Sybase," said Stu Schuster, vice president of marketing at Sybase.
"Working with Intergraph in several of our key markets--transportation,
manufacturing, and government, for example--will increase the number of
customers who benefit from our respective expertise- in these areas.
Intergraph focuses on building quality applications, and Sybase
concentrates on providing the most advanced client/server architecture
available. Additionally, the CAD/CAM and geographic information systems
(GIS) markets represent a tremendous opportunity for Sybase, and we
believe that Intergraph's leadership in this area will help us take
advantage of it."

Sybase and Intergraph have already combined efforts as partners by
comarketing Intergraph's product Relational Interface System (RIS)
software. RIS is an application programming interface (API) that offers
simultaneous, direct, and read/write connections to relational database
management systems (RDBMS). The product connects to SYBASE, Ingres,
Oracle, Informix, Rdb, DB2 and other RDBMSs, running on dissimilar
hardware platforms using numerous protocols. In a recent promotional
offering distributed to prospective customers, Intergraph bundled RIS with
a demonstration copy of Sybase's SQL Server product.

"Sybase understands that most companies have databases from more than one
vendor, and we believe that the SQL Server open architecture is
well-suited to take advantage of the interoperability capabilities of
RIS," said Bob Larsen, executive technical manager, database systems at
Intergraph.

In addition to co-marketing RIS, Sybase and Intergraph work together in the
field, leveraging one another's expertise. "Sybase works closely with us
to understand our business and what we need to get products to market,"
said Larsen. "There's clearly a synergistic relationship with Sybase--the
more we educate one another about our respective businesses, the more
successful we'll become. That way, we will maximize the benefits we bring
to our customers."

The Open Solutions Program

Sybase views its Open Solutions alliances as playing an integral role in
bringing total client/server solutions to its customers. In 1993, the
company significantly expanded its Open Solutions Program to include new,
dedicated resources in technical, sales and marketing areas.

The Open Solutions Program is built upon a solid foundation of third-party
relationships. It was founded in 1989 with independent software vendors
(ISVs), typically tools vendors who develop SYBASE compatible software but
do not resell SYBASE products. In 1990, the program expanded to include
VARs, typically application developers who embed SYBASE software in
applications and resell these solutions to end users. This year, a systems
integrator program was added--Sybase systems integrators typically resell
SYBASE, adding value in network consulting, custom software development,
and hardware integration and support. Currently, there are over 350 ISVs,
320 VARs, and 100 systems integrators participating in the Open Solutions
Program in North America.
