Multi-Tech Beefs Up MultiModemZDX with V.32terbo Power, Remote
Configuration and Windows Software

MOUNDS VIEW, MINNESOTA--January 21, 1994--Multi-Tech Systems, Inc., a
leading data communications technology company, has added a V.32terbo
version of its MultiModemZDX (model MT1932ZDX, or "ZDX") desktop modem.
Along with V.32terbo's 19.2K bps speed, the new ZDX modem can be remotely
configured and ships with Windows fax and data communications software.
The new ZDX is a full-featured V.32terbo/V.32bis/V.32 (19.2K bps down to
300 bps) data and V.17/Group 3 (14.4K/9600/4800 bps) fax modem. The
MT1932ZDX modems are currently shipping and are priced at $299.00 (U.S.).

"By adding more speed and throughput with V.32terbo technology, the remote
configuration feature, and Windows software, we're addressing a much wider
audience than comparable products," states Raghu Sharma, President of
Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. "The ZDX modem can operate over dial-up phone
lines at speeds up to 76.8K bps, transmitting or receiving asynchronous
data using V.32terbo/V.42bis standards, or at 14.4K/9600/4800 bps sending
and receiving faxes using the V.17/Group 3 standards. By bundling Windows
data communications and fax software with the ZDX modem, we've created a
complete system where new users don't have to worry about buying separate
software. The ZDX's remote configuration feature will benefit both Small
Office-Home Office (SOHO) and large corporate users, because our technical
support can connect directly to the MT1932ZDX and perform diagnostics and
set parameters remotely. System administrators in larger organizations can
also use the remote configuration feature to maintain remote users in a
similar manner. "

The MT1932ZDX supports AT&T's 19.2K/16.8K bps V.32terbo open standard. The
V.32terbo standard extends current 9.6K and 14.4K bps modem technology by
providing two additional data rates in a scheme otherwise like that of the
14.4K bps V.32bis. The MT1932ZDX provides the higher data rates while
maintaining compatibility with lower-speed modems based on V.32bis, V.32,
V.22bis and other common modulation standards.

The MT1932ZDX weighs in at a mere eight ounces and is approximately 4 1/2
inches wide by 5 5/8 inches deep and 1 inch high. It provides V.42 error
correction for 100% error-free transmissions and V.42bis data compression
yielding asynchronous throughputs up to 76.8K bps, which are four times
faster than 19.2K bps V.32terbo alone (depending on file content). Fax
transmissions at 14.4K/9600/4800 bps allow the MT1932ZDX to send or
receive faxes with any V.17, Group 3, or Group 2 fax machine, fax card or
fax/modem in the world. The ZDX uses industry standard "AT" commands for
modem configuration and dialing, and includes a remote configuration
feature which allows a user to remotely change parameters and run
diagnostics for troubleshooting, technical support and system
administration purposes. The ZDX comes bundled with MultiExpress data
Windows communications and MultiExpressFax for Windows software.
