Usenet News and Mailing Lists on Weekly 8mm Tape

For international users, Usenet News on Tape is a distribution service of
Usenet News and Mailing Lists on a weekly 8mm tape. In cases where the
daily transmittal of 20 or 30 megs of News is cost prohibitive, Allcom
provides a weekly tar tape of batched news articles sent via International
Express Mail. Each tape contains several hundred megs of batched news
articles accumulated over the previous 7 days. Additionally a separate
tar file containing 300 plus Usenet Mailing Lists "gatewayed" into local
newsgroups can be added to the same 8mm tape.

Our effort is to create and make available the full complement of Usenet
resources both Newsgroups and Mailing Lists in the most cost effective
way. Our tape distribution method saves you significant amounts of money
and time on communication costs, connect time, modem purchases,
administration and archival.

The following hierarchical newsgroups are carried:

Main Usenet Newsgroups - alt, comp, misc, news, rec,
                              sci, soc, talk

Miscellaneous Newsgroups - bionet, biz, ddn, gnu, ieee,
k12, pubnet, and many others ...

International Newsgroups - aus, can, de, fj, uk, chile,
bln, cl, dk, finet, fr, maus,
                              no, and many others ...

US Regional Newsgroups - ny, ne, tx, ba, ca, az, dfw, fl,
                            houston, la, nyc, pgh, and
                            many others ...

In most cases, if you already have news software running no modification
should be necessary. We create the tapes under C News and no root
privileges are necessary to load the tape.

News tapes can be ordered with or without the "Gatewayed" Mailing Lists.
They are added to the end of each tape as a separate tar file and are not
batched or part of the news system. You can look at these mailing list
newsgroups just as you would with any other newsgroup, installs in a few
simple steps. Some of the 300+ "Gatewayed" Mailing Lists are:

   info-gnu, info-high-audio, info-honda, Internet Radio Journal,
pdp8-lovers, Stock Market Secrets, and a few hundred more ...

Subscription prices per issue range from $99 to $49 plus shipping.
"Gatewayed" Mailing Lists is an additional $49 per issue. Delivery time
cited by the US Postal Office for most major international business
centers is 2 to 3 days. Tapes are created and mailed on a Saturday so most
subscribers should receive them by Tuesday of the following week.

These services for international users are also provided:
