TOM SAWYER INTRODUCES TWO NEW "GRAPH LAYOUT TOOLKIT" FAMILY PRODUCTS

New Products Automate Mapping of Large Computer Networks

BERKELEY, Calif, December 1, 1993 - Tom Sawyer Software Corporation has
introduced two innovative new products for the "Graph Layout Toolkit"
product family. The Graph Layout Toolkit is a family of truly portable,
topology management products designed to improve the graphics output of a
variety of application programs with its revolutionary automated layout
services. The Graph Layout Toolkit supports DOS, OS/2, Microsoft Windows,
Microsoft Windows NT, the Macintosh and most versions of UNIX supplied
with the Sun SPARCstation, HP 9000, IBM RS/6000, SGI and NeXT machines.

Bundled directly into an application, the Graph Layout Toolkit delivers an
immediate face-lift to graphics applications with its dramatic enhancement
of graph readability. Software developers see marked improvement in their
graph output without making extensive changes to their code, and they find
their products becomes far simpler to use. End users find they can better
visualize Relationships within complicated data when information is
transformed into easily-interpreted graphs with Graph Layout Toolkit
processing.

The Graph Layout Toolkit initially supported Hierarchical Layout. The
Hierarchical library is ideal for use with project management software,
compiler and software development tools, data inspection software,
work-flow software, reverse engineering applications and database schema
viewers.

The Graph Layout Toolkit now also supports Circular and Symmetric Layout.
These new libraries are designed specifically for the network management,
design and simulation markets. The Graph Layout Toolkit enables network
management applications to map large computer networks automatically.

"To date, there has been no comparable product available that can help
network management applications map even the most complicated networks.
Traditionally, network management applications discover the network
devices but require the network administrator to hand-position the network
devices on the display; a tedious process. Today's internets are far too
complex for hand editing and Tom Sawyer's automated mapping technology is
a big win for network administrators." said Brendan P. Madden, President
of Tom Sawyer Software.

Tom Sawyer Software is incorporating the Graph Layout Toolkit into a family
of end-user network mapping products for the industry standard network
management platforms including SunNet Manager, Hewlett-Packard OpenView
and IBM NetView/6000. Tom Sawyer recently released the "Network Layout
Assistant " for SunNet Manager; the Network Layout Assistant incorporates
the Graph Layout Toolkit as core technology.

Software developers are finding the Graph Layout Toolkit's automated
services very appealing because they see immediate improvements in their
products. In addition, they still have complete flexibility for
multi-platform GUI development, all without investing several man years
developing notoriously difficult layout algorithms. "The Graph Layout
Toolkit increases product quality while saving developers valuable time
bringing home the promise of Object-Oriented technology," Mr. Madden said.
"Our customers have been able to successfully install it into their
products within a matter of days."

The Graph Layout Toolkit is specifically designed to provide real-time,
automated, graph layout services through a family of class libraries
written in C++ that include ANSI C APIs. The Graph Layout Toolkit 's
sophisticated technology is the result of six years ' research in the area
of automated layout technologies. Future family products are already
underway that will provide for a wide scope of possible layout styles and
incorporate many more useful features.

Tom Sawyer Software, based in Berkeley, California, was founded in 1992 to
develop a family of related automated layout products based on the latest
graph layout technology and object-oriented design principles.
