Microsoft Calculations Don't Add Up

Santa Clara, CA--Most people trust their Windows calculators to give
correct answers, but that trust can sometimes prove costly. A spokesman
for Judy's Applications explains: "Microsoft Windows uses floating point
approximations which do not always yield exact answers, and while
engineers had assumed that these approximations would be adequate for the
general user, it turns out to be quite easy to encounter discrepancies
which can multiply to create horrendous problems". For example, the
default Windows calculator gives an incorrect result for something as
simple as "750.35 - 750.30". For someone who regularly deals with large
numbers or lengthy calculations, the errors can really add up.

"Fortunately, most of these errors are so small that they really don't
matter," says Dan Stickel, Judy's Applications Marketing V.P. "But if
accuracy is important to you, or you just want peace of mind and don't
wish to double-check your important calculations, we recommend you switch
to Judy's TenKey."

Judy's TenKey is a replacement for the default Windows calculator that
enables users to create their own personalized calculator in a matter of
seconds. Configurable options include input syntax (standard, reverse
polish notation, or tenkey), display components (scrolling tape, financial
functions, statistics, number pad, transcendental functions), display
settings (number of decimals, stay on top, red negatives), and more. In
particular, Judy's TenKey allows users to highlight tape entries with the
mouse and reuse them in subsequent calculations or paste them into other
Windows applications such as Word or Excel.

"Judy's TenKey enables you to work faster and more reliably," states Judy
Lemos, President. "Once you can see (and reuse!) the numbers in your
calculations, you will never return to the default Windows calculator."
Judy's TenKey is primarily aimed at accountants, engineers, and laptop
users in general, but can aid productivity for virtually any Windows
user.

Version 2.1 of Judy's TenKey is scheduled for December 15 release, and will
add support for networked installations, international formats, and
numerous usability improvements. And yes, it overcomes the inaccuracy of
the default Windows calculator, using a proprietary algorithm developed by
a Harvard graduate. Orders are $14.75 plus $2.95 shipping and handling,
and can be placed by calling (800) 242-4775.
