Telia And Apple Collaborate To Bring Newton Technology To Sweden

SANTA CLARA, California--December 7, 1993--Apple Computer, Inc. and Telia
have announced that they intend to collaborate on Newton products for
mobile users in Sweden. Telia and Apple expect this collaboration to place
Sweden at the forefront in the field of integrated computing and
communications solutions in Europe.

"Telia's growing number of mobile customers need integrated services which
work seamlessly with today's computer technology. It is important for
Telia to occupy a leading position in the evolving market for fully
integrated communications solutions," said Stig Johansson, director of
marketing for Telia. "The collaboration between Telia and Apple enables
Newton technology to be integrated into some of Telia's mobile services
such as Minicall text, NMT 900, GSM, and the PLUS and Access information
system. Products based on Newton technology may even be sold in Telia's
retail outlets."

Apple's pen-based Newton technology incorporates ease-of-use and
portability, as well as wireline and wireless communications capabilities.
Newton technology offers a completely new way of working for the
experienced computer user, as well as for people who have never used a
computer.

"This collaboration will expand the existing information technology
infrastructure. We expect this to improve considerably Sweden's
competitive edge, and to open up significant export opportunities in the
European market," said Jan Nerdal, MD for Apple Computer, Inc. "The
combination of Apple's Newton technology with Telia's services and
technology will enable customers who rely on mobile communications to
increase their personal productivity, and provide them with a rich variety
of communications options for both the work and home environments."

Newton Intelligence, the underlying technology of the Newton MessagePad,
can interpret users' handwriting and translate it into printed text. The
collaboration between Telia and Apple is expected to bring about the
localization of Newton technology for the Swedish market.

Apple's Newton MessagePad, a handheld communications assistant that allows
people to gather, manage, and share information through many
communications methods available today, was introduced in early August
1993, at the MacWorld Expo in Boston. The MessagePad shipped nationwide on
Labor Day, and was launched in the United Kingdom on September 16, 1993.
