SYBASE SOFTWARE SHOWCASED AT WORLD CUP '94 FINAL DRAW

Major Milestone Achieved in Delivery of the Advanced Information System
Supporting the World's Largest Single-Sport Event

EMERYVILLE, CA, December 16, 1993 -- Sybase, Inc., The Enterprise
Client/Server Company, today announced that the information network built
by the World Cup '94 Technology Partners - EDS, Sprint and Sun
Microsystems, Inc.- to support and manage World Cup USA 1994 will be
operational at a media event surrounding the Final Draw. A main component
of this network is Sybase software.

"It is World Cup '94's objective to have the most technically advanced
information system available," said Richard Levine, senior vice
president/general manager of World Cup '94 Marketing. "Sybase's reputation
as a leader in client/server technology and its range of tools will assist
us in hosting the greatest World Cup in history."

At the Final Draw, teams that have made it through all the qualifying games
will be assigned first-round play at one of nine venue sites across the
United States where the 1994 games will be held. This site information
data is entered into the World Cup '94 information network and transmitted
simultaneously to World Cup '94 offices and data centers managing the
overall activities supporting the games.

Final Draw activities include a technology briefing with question and
answer session, after which press and analysts will be invited to a tour
and hands-on demo of the Press Center and Accreditation process.
Participants will experience the actual system and procedures used to
register press, support staff, VIPs, officials, and other participants in
the games.

World Cup '94 Advanced Information Network

"World Cup 94's information system is designed to manage all the
operations, accreditation, security, results and logistics tied to the
event," said Juan Jose Vidal, vice president of technology for World Cup
USA 1994. "This year's network is truly state-of-the-art, bringing
together multimedia information delivery, an enterprise client/server
infrastructure, and global connectivity and access," Vidal concluded.

A key component of this network is the World Cup News Services network,
built using Sybase's Gain Momentum multimedia application development
environment. Information available through this system includes the FIFA
Official Record Book, 1994 biographies of players; results and statistics,
press releases, announcements, and other news services.

The World Cup News Service provides access to a powerful, easy-to-use,
centralized source of information on all elements of the game - both
current and historical - offering non-computer-literate users access to
information needed to accurately report on the events of the game. As a
tool for the press covering the games, a media center with workstations
accessing this service will be available at each of the venue sites.

The World Cup '94 information systems will include a broad range of
Sybase's relational database, application development, and systems
