STB INTRODUCES NEW VL BUS ACCELERATOR AT FALL COMDEX

STB Sprint VL graphics accelerator to offer superior performance-to-price
ratio for VESA Local Bus Platform

Richardson, Texas (November 15, 1993)--STB Systems, Inc. has announced the
release of a 32-bit VESA Local Bus graphics accelerator card. The product,
named Sprint VL, uses a 32-bit local bus interface and one meg of fast
DRAM to display up to 16.7 million colors and resolutions as high as
1024x768 non-interlaced.

The Sprint VL provides 16.7 million colors at a resolution of 640x480
(60Hz), 65K colors at a resolution of 800x600 (60Hz) and 256 colors at a
resolution 1024x768 (72Hz). All non-interlaced resolutions support
flicker-free, high refresh rates recommended by VESA. Refresh rates
provided are 60, 70 and 72 Hz. These high-color and true-color modes are a
good match for Windows and OS/2 applications that use high color graphics
and need acceleration in SuperVGA modes.

Powered by a leading edge video controller chip, the Sprint VL will be
configured with one megabyte of fast DRAM. The video chip will provide
full hardware support for accelerated color expansion, polygon fills and
other hardware assist operations. There will be a custom OEM version of
the Sprint VL that will be configured with 512K of fast 60ns DRAM
upgradeable to two megabytes of video memory.

The product will also come standard with a VESA compatible feature
connector. The feature connector will allow other add-in boards, like
video overlay boards or video capture boards, to be used in conjunction
with the Sprint VL.

Installation is simple because the Sprint 7 comes with an easy-to-use
installation utility. For standard bus speeds an installation utility
installs software video drivers on the hard drive and saves the monitor
configurations automatically to the EEPROM. For true speedsters, on-board
hardware jumpers make it possible to plug into a standard VESA Local bus
compatible slots running at 33 MHz. The Sprint VL can also be configured
via hardware jumpers to run in 50 MHz local bus expansion slots for
optimum performance.

Another convenient utility included is called Any View. This utility allows
users to place an additional menu on the screen that is present in all
applications. A user can do a variety of things from this menu bar, like
change resolutions, color depths, jump back and forth between resolutions,
create a virtual desktop, put a bird's eye view of the entire desktop in a
small window, zoom-in an area of the screen and change the number of rows
and columns a monitor will display. All of the functions can be done by
clicking on a menu button and do not require a user to restart windows or
leave the application they are working in.

Another utility included is a Display Power Management Software (DPMS)
utility called PowerStar. This utility meets VESA's specification for
future generations of power-saving monitors. The PowerStar' comes with two
modes of power reduction. The first mode will put the monitor in an
inactive mode, blanking the monitor screen but still keeping the
red/blue/green electron guns active and ready to fire. The second mode is
a shut down mode and is comparable to turning the monitor completely off.
Both modes are controlled through a user interface that operates similar
to a screen saver. The user defines the amount of time before each mode is
activated.

In addition to these utilities, the Sprint VL also comes with a wide
variety of software enhancement drivers for popular applications. The
product ships with high performance GUI drivers for Windows, Windows NT,
OS/2, NeXTStep, SCO Open DeskTop, SunSoft Solaris and others.

The Sprint VL is positioned against many higher priced products
manufactured in Asia. STB is committed to providing products at a price
point that is competitive in the global marketplace. Unlike many low
priced products that are being imported from Asia, the Sprint VL provides
a very price competitive product that is reliable and is backed up by a
lifetime guarantee.

"At a suggested retail price of $129, the Sprint VL is one of the lowest
priced, best built graphics accelerator cards on the market today," said
Robert Hoskins, Marketing Communications Manager. "This card has a great
set of utilities and provides over 15 million Winmarks on Winbench 3.1
running at 256 colors, 1024x768 resolution and a refresh rate of 70Hz in
STB tests. This performance can be attributed STB's long history of
providing solid board designs and quality software drivers."

The Sprint VL will be available in limited quantities at the end of
November and is scheduled to begin full production runs during December
1993. The suggested retail price is $129.

The Sprint VL is backed with a Lifetime Warranty, the longest in the
industry, and is supported via toll-free technical support and a 24-hour
BBS.
