SOFTWARE PROVIDES EASY ACCESS TO ALL TYPES OF PHOTO CD DISCS

For Less Than $50, Users of New Kodak Photo CD Access Plus Software Can
Work With Consumer, Professional, and Photo CD Portfolio Formats

ROCHESTER, N.Y., December 22--Apple Macintosh computer users can take
advantage of the Pro Photo CD Master disc format, and use their computers
as Photo CD Portfolio format playback devices, with a new low-cost
software product announced today by Eastman Kodak Company.

Kodak Photo CD Access Plus software lets users work with all current Photo
CD disc formats. It is the next generation of Kodak's popular Photo CD
Access software, which let people read and display images stored in the
original Kodak Photo CD Master format.

With Photo CD Access Plus software and a Photo CD-compatible CD-ROM drive,
users can:

* Play Photo CD discs on Macintosh computers--including discs published in
the Photo CD Portfolio format that contain combinations of photographic
images, digital audio, graphics, and text screens, and programmed access
(also called menu branching)

* Read images from Pro Photo CD Master discs, which store images from
multiple film formats--including 35 mm, 120, and 4 x 5 inch -- at higher
resolution than Photo CD Master discs. Users then can import the images
into current applications like Adobe Photoshop software

* Employ more color rendering options and a more flexible user interface
than the current Photo CD Access software offers

The Photo CD Access Plus software package contains two software
applications, Kodak Photo CD Access version 2.0, and new Kodak Photo CD
Player software. The package also includes newly produced Photo CD sample
images, and sample Photo CD Portfolio applications. In the U.S. and
Canada, Kodak is shipping Photo CD Access Plus software now, with a
manufacturer's suggested retail price of $49.95.

Dr. Brendan J. Lovelock, manager, Commercial CD Imaging, U.S. and Canada
Region, said "The low price and easy-to-use interface of Photo CD Access
Plus software makes it ideal for first-time users of Photo CD Master
discs. The new software also is targeted at two key categories of
commercial users." Kodak Photo CD Access Plus software offers professional
photographers and graphic arts professionals a low-cost way to take
advantage of the full photographic quality of images stored on a Pro Photo
CD Master disc. The Photo CD Portfolio software lets Macintosh computer
users play Photo CD Portfolio format discs. This will broaden the appeal
of the Photo CD Portfolio format because the same disc also can be played
on TV using low-cost Photo CD, 3DO/Panasonic R.E.A.L., Apple PowerCD, and
CD-I players. "Kodak has shipped more than 200,000 units of Kodak Photo CD
Access software worldwide since its introduction a year ago," Lovelock
added.

KODAK Photo CD Portfolio Disc Production Software

Photo CD Portfolio software enables Photo CD Portfolio-compatible CD-ROM
drives to function like the devices that play Photo CD discs to TV.
Consumers can call the Kodak Customer Assistance Center toll free at
800-CD-KODAK (800-235-6325) for information on compatible CD-ROM drives.
CompuServe users can contact Kodak on the Kodak forum (GO: KODAK).

Target applications for Photo CD Portfolio discs include business
presentations, informational kiosks, trade show displays, and educational
programs. Using the computer's mouse, Photo CD Player software allows
users to select menu choices to take full advantage of the Photo CD
Portfolio format's interactive features.

Kodak will launch software to produce Photo CD Portfolio format discs at
MacWorld in January 1994.

Image Access Features

The Kodak Photo CD Access Plus software package includes Photo CD Access
version 2.0 software that creates an on-screen contact sheet for images
stored on Photo CD Master and Pro Photo CD Master format discs. The
software allows users to read and display Photo CD images, and to perform
basic functions such as cropping and image rotation.

Kodak Photo CD Access software, version 2.0, acts as a bridge, enabling
users to import their Photo CD images for use in other software
applications such as for page layout or image enhancement. Other
capabilities of the new Photo CD Access version 2.0 software include:

* A flexible user interface that people can tailor to their liking--for
example, changing the layout of the contact sheet or the background color
behind images to simulate consumer image viewing conditions

* Color rendering options not available with first-generation Photo CD
Access software, allowing users to convert the native Photo CD color
metric to a variety of monitor (RGB) color metrics. This gives a more
pleasing view of the images on video monitors, and helps manage color when
printing to color printers

* For users of color management software from Kodak Electronic Printing
Systems (KEPS), the ability to output a Photo CD file directly to a
cyan-magenta-yellow-black (CMYK) TIFF file

* The ability to bring up multiple versions of an image to experiment with
different cropping and color rendering options side-by-side

Family of Photo CD Software

Kodak Photo CD Access Plus software complements a family of Photo CD
software products that Kodak developed to accommodate a wide range of
desktop applications. Kodak Shoebox software provides easy search and
retrieval of images, motion, and audio files stored in databases. The
other software products include:

* Kodak Photo CD Acquire Module for Adobe Photoshop software, a low-cost
plug-in module for Photoshop software on Macintosh systems that increases
control over color when opening Photo CD images

* Kodak PhotoEdge Photo CD software available for Macintosh and Windows
systems--targeted at business presenters and office-based desktop
publishers that lets users do more advanced image correction and
improvement than Photo CD Access software

Price, Availability

Kodak Photo CD Access Plus software is available now for Macintosh systems.
The software comes loaded on a single CD-ROM disc, accompanied by 24
professional-quality sample images and sample Photo CD Portfolio format
content. Photo CD Access Plus software is available now and has a
manufacturer's suggested retail price of $49.95.

Kodak expects to introduce Photo CD Access Plus software for Windows-based
systems early in 1994.

In addition to the end-user product, Kodak will provide software developers
with an update to the Kodak Photo CD Access developer toolkit. With the
update, developers can incorporate read and display capabilities for Pro
Photo CD Master images, take advantage of the new flexibility for
conversion of the native PhotoYCC file format to video RGB, and provide
substantial performance improvements.

People who would like to order Photo CD Access Plus software, upgrade
previous versions, or who require more information, may call the Kodak
